I cant imagine Saints would allow a key player and captain to leave this close to end of transfer window.

Not exactly close is it? Teams can't always have what they want. Players hold the power.

I understand that, but it doesn't make sense, espesially as he respects the club so highly.

Ok so I know I'm a rare (very) poster. I read this thread often, when I'm away with work nigh on every day and I've just been home after a few months away and seen the two preseason friendlies, I don't know how many of you have or haven't. Two things for me:

    1) the formation is very fluid, pace appears to be key. It suits long, Redmond (in my opinion looking like a great deal), tadic. The bench doesn't offer much of this, Jrod I hope can but that's not Austin's game. He, JWP, Romeu look so hungry though. Impressed by all three of their efforts in the two games.

    2) We've overachieved two seasons in a row, I get to walk to the ground excited by what I'm about to see, nothing excites people around me more than youth. Come on nipper, go on take him on son, my days he looks quick and just 19 etc etc.

I'd rather have a financially secure team safe in the premier league accepting slow progress than one gambling on expensive signings. We are on the up, that doesn't mean a higher league position each season, it means growing a base to support a higher peak to the pyramid. Enjoy seeing the youth, enjoy the young signings, the Spanish teams didn't look as high a quality as maybe next week will be but we controlled both games with the starting eleven. Let's judge the team after the first two home games and not the very tough away start.

    I like that, good post!

I'd judge the team after 10 games though :emoticon-0148-yes:

If we plan to play a diamond with a 4-1-2-1-2 formation then signing wingers but not strikers seems odd; does this mean that we may play more of a 4-3-3?

Alongside the 4-3-3 currently played by the Academy, it could mean that the football ops people want/expect us to revert.

Never underestimate the board's ability to shock us in the selling-a-player department.

Indeed. The cosy, family club card often gets played, and then suddenly bye, bye, off they go. It's difficult to find the best way of supporting this club sometimes, because dare I say it, the goalposts get moved. [unfortunate pun].

Fonte is angling for a better contract. I would be astonished if he was off.

Just noticed. Finally, after I decided to step down from being a moderator, the Supermods have actually removed the powers. Thank goodness for that. The policing days are over. :)

    Hi St.G.

    Not sleepy.?

I'd like to say that I've been watching the Olympics, but actually I've just finished watching an episode of Eat Well For Less and being astonished by the amount of money and food ordinary people waste.

And all this brand food they buy.???

Southampton have initiated contact with Napoli over a potential deal for Italy forward Manolo Gabbiadini, 24. (Tutto Mercato, via HITC)

Mrs G watches that and is astonished at people's shopping habits. She is a great planner and very thrifty and cooks everything from scratch. The amount of food that is wasted is very worrying and quite astonishing. As a child I was always hungry partly because as fast as you ate you burned up the calories because of an active lifestyle. Our plates were always emptied and all food waste was fed to the chickens. We had really thin chicken.

These days I am finding my nights far more restless. If I wake up for the bathroom it takes an age to get back to sleep hence my posting nonsense on here in the middle of the night.

So far I have not got into the Olympics but I have been listening to reports on the radio. The Olympics hasn't quite caught my attention in the same way the London Olympics did.

I'm with Mrs Godders on this. I can't quite believe the amount of ignorance out there. Is it laziness or being time poor [as they say] or what.? Surely people know by now that you pay a premium for brand food, that is hardly ever superior; you pay a premium for ready prepared food, and that it is relatively simple to quickly make something better than almost anything pre-prepared in packets. And the skill is easily acquired. I've been truly shocked.

Like yourself no doubt, if I didn't want food as a kid there was no alternative, so we ate everything on the plate. Plus our lifestyle was such that we were always slightly hungry, I felt, although I never was in reality, other wise I would have wasted away. :)

I take it you're waking up due to the warm nights. These women don't half glow.!

Gabbiadini would be a nice fit. He could play on the right in a 4-3-3, or as one of the strikers or attacking midfield in a diamond. I suspect the formation we will end up actually playing is a fluid diamond that often takes the form of a 4-3-3 or vice versa and he has the flexibility to do it.

He's one of those players whose best strength is his ability to create mismatches. Stronger and better in the air than FB's. Quicker than CB's. Of course it could also end up going the other way if things don't work out where he is too slow against FB and too weak against CB.

My Mrs wasn't too happy when we sold Schneiderlin and bought Clasie, when I show her the photo of who might be signing in Pelle's absence she's going to be livid.

Seperate the club, in your mind, from the players. That's the only way.
