hAHA ping pong is on now ... they should have table football, air hockey and darts as some other events ... maybe even that fairground game were you try to catapult frogs with a hammer into flowers on a rotating lily pad
Get in The International Paralympic Committee has totally excluded the Russian federation Philip Craven head of the IPC has absolutely slagged off the Russian state ! so expect a statement from Putin accusing him of being a fascist stooge
Wouldn't be Ironic since it took Russia how long to even admit there was such a thing as a disabled Russian... These days they're probably deliberately disabling candidates to compete....
I do actually remember them years ago (Moscow games 1980 ?) refusing to host the Paralympics as they had no disabled people. Then whilst training for the olympics a Russian gymnast fell off the beam and snapped her spinal cord. I remember thinking "well you have got at least one so are the games now on" Maybe it was an early and very extreme of the "Social Model" of disability politics first espoused by Prof Oliver - ironically a Trotskyist i think. PS used to be a standard joke if the Israelis needed another could player for their wheelchair basketball team they would just have a friendly fire accident which coincidentally involved a decent basketball player.
****! did you see that horrendous crash on the woman's bike road race? that poor dutch girl looks to be broken...
I did see it and she went over the front of the bike and seemed to land on the top of her head, she did not move from the moment she hit the ground. The downhill stretch they where on seemed ridiculously dangerous.
We were just discussing it on our board... she landed on her back ( one of the guys rewound it on his Sky)... shocking.. awful... hope she's ok... but without much hope.. Good luck for the season fellas... 'get among 'em....
If she hasn't suffered serious injury she is one lucky woman. I watched it and was terrified for her particularly the way her head was hanging over the edge of the kerb
Was that the same road course as the mens race ?? Because there were quite a few nasty tumbles on the final downhill section in that yesterday. Richie Porte smashed his right shoulder in proper good. It seemed very tight and there was no run-off zone but this is the way with cycling ... at least there were nets to catch them, better than tumbling off down some jungle ravine still attached to your bike and doing 40-50mph still
same course far too much solid stuff to hit right on bends plus the road furniture was often left uncovered. As for the fencing i might have more faith if the had repaired the section Porte went thru yesterday. That course was a seious accident waiting too happen and i think broken collarbone . 3 broken ribs and a collapsed lung was actually a lucky break having watched the crash today
Didn't see it will have to have a look after I've finished watching tennis and robot wars (yeh that's in the olympics too) ... agree on the road furniture, there was big **** off boulder at one point that they'd built a roundabout around instead of move it when the road was built and there were no fences or netting around it. The place where Porte went off had these ridiculous mahoosive, solid wooden stakes holding the netting, surely you're gonna want to use a light hollow but still tough plastic for that or something so y'know, the rider that crashed doesn't smash himself up on it
tbf he was prolly doped up on so much painkillers that they could've been loading him into a flying chariot pulled by ten unicorns and he wouldn't have batted an eyelid
I dunno why it has a guidance warning tbh ... i mean what's worse? A controlled explosion at the finish line of a bike race, a stray bullet through the side of a media tent or dropping some crippled Frenchy on his stretcher ass
