I suppose a stint at one-time European giants like Man Utd raises their profile for when they're advertising disposable razors in retirement.

I think City maintained fan numbers in the lower leagues for two reasons: 1) they are football mad and 2) the alternative was United. There is no way a City fan would switch to United or let them crow over the falling gates at City. They prided themselves on being 'proper' football fans.

I predict West Ham will bid for Bony. And Everton. And Stoke. And Palace. And maybe even Swansea.

    But not Saints.

We are never predictable....if you've heard of a player, we probably won't bid for him.

I think Puel wants more mobile attacking players. Will be surprised if we sign a target man type

Yep, but strangely he'd fit very well with us, just the option that would really let us push on. Must be on £120K a week though.....

He'd potentially be an excellent signing. A different kind of striker to what we already have. Prior to his move to Man City he was great for Swansea. Like Bertrand and Romeu, has experienced a 'big' club and how the grass isn't always greener. Still young enough at 27. I would imagine that there is a lot of competition for him, but probably from the likes of Everton, Stoke etc. We do have European football to offer and a track record of taking players who have been in the doldrums at big clubs and turning them into key regular players for us. Wages could be a problem I guess. Hmm, be interested to see where he ends up. If be delighted if it's us

The North West is generally a "hotbed of football" and team loyalties run deep. Not sure what you're saying here, Fran. Has Bournemouth's rise given Pompey fans an alternative to jump to rather than the despised Saints? How many Saints fans looked for an alternative 5/6 years ago? They just stayed away, I'm sure.

City do have very loyal fans, and like to make out that they are "proper Mancs". It's bollocks, of course. Everton have a far greater claim to be the people's club of Liverpool than City can have of Manchester. I judge this based on hundreds of taxis caught in both cities over the years. Finding a Red taxi driver in Liverpool was rare; in Manchester it was pretty evenly split between the two clubs. As our Manc poster earlier said, City fans do have trouble counting if the numbers are greater than 10.

I am sure west ham would be interested in bony. I can't believe they have only spent about 13m this window. I am sure I have heard gold/Sullivan mention much more and thought they must have spent at least 130m by now.

As a taxpayer who has helped pay for their new stadium, I am more than happy that city let them have bony and I pay towards that too. In fact send me the bill for policing, their travel expenses and Andy Carroll's barber.
