I've told you before where I was born? No disputing where "mackem" comes from? It's an insult in my eyes, always will be.
It did mate, scouse was a potato soup but you'd hardly call it a dish ..... it was the cheapest broth, supplemented with scraps of meat. The people, at the bottom of the food chain, were called Scousers as a derogatory term.
And those who go to retrieve leftovers of said gruel from stranger's dustbin later on are said to be Liverpool supporters, aka Bindippers.
This explains everything ....... it was nothing to do with little Rafa or his awful suit, it was that pesky away form curse http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/spor...s/newcastles-away-day-woes-continue-11713212? please log in to view this image
Aye, it's his nephew I think. Some clever arse will post a link soon, I expect. Hats off to him. I don't think it's something I would ever do. Got no tattoos at all.
What a smashing fella, an amazing thing to do The comments on the article suggest he walk round the SOL pitch in his Mag top and a bucket collecting.. I think that would be fantastic... I'm sure he would be showered in coins.... Literally!! Great story... I hope it's not the last we hear of it
I heard long ago that the working population of Sunderland was divided roughly into two, both connected to ships and shipping, those that mackem (build them) and those who takem (take them away to sea) this sounds logical and is probably as good a definition as we will get.
PPM is an insult mate not makem, Peterlee Plakka Mag, so you can never be a Geordie not born within the stench of the Tyne, anyway how are they hanging empty i hope
I live in Peterlee, but I'm 100% black and white, not a hint of plastic in sight. Hanging too low mate, don't get emptied too much lately........
Sunderland was renowned for the number of Press gangs they had, mostly operating around the east end, when a ship was ready to sail they provided the crew as well, hence the saying " We makem and we takem " http://www.sunderlandecho.com/news/terror-and-horror-of-press-gangs-1-1140201
