Hayden looked decent too but faded second half. Definitely looks a future star Hayden and he was right about them moving the ball a lot quicker than us last season too, all for nothing though Isaac!

Funnily enough he was haring down the wing at one point tonight and I thought isn't he supposed to be slow...

Do you think it's a coincidence Shelvey came on and almost immediately twatted him twice? He's got as much heart as anyone else on the pitch and the pace is in his brain.

He'll be in the Prem soon, a deserved MOTM tonight too captains performance. The interview at the end with Cairney and their big forward too, I assumed Smith would be some kind of airhead but he sounded very intelligent when he spoke, goes to show don't make assumptions about people!

looking at that newcastle lineup for this game, we had a far better squad in our first game

He did OK in the first half, though his statement that they pass the ball much better that us, certainly wasn't in evidence last night.

Agreed. Why are they such massive favourites? Size of the city? Doesn't help TWS. Their squad on paper - and the pitch - isn't the best in the division and they've got a manager who has been entirely ****e ever since fluking a Champions League win.

Stupid twats should've stuck with Hughton. And Pardew. And Allardyce...

If it wasn't for the unknown element of losing Shakey and Walsh I'd have a bet on Derby, flathead knows what he's doing in that league,

No offence to the lad but I think if he really was good enough some PL team would have snapped him up by now.

I think he said they pass it quicker, not better, might be wrong on that! The ball was fizzing about a lot quicker than I saw with us last season but to little effect in the end

A friend of mine at uni was a Liverpool fan and I remember once speaking with him about Rafa. His frustration was that he could set the team up to beat Real Madrid 4-0 and then they would lose 3-0 at West Brom in the next game. Rafa thrived tactically in the bigger games but couldn't hack it against the lesser lights of the league. Certainly don't think it'll be a cakewalk for them and it will be interesting to see how they deal with the likes of Rotherham, Brentford and Barnsley away.

A lot of Newcastle fans seem to be looking back to that 2009/10 season but I don't think they will repeat that again. Before they had the likes of Kevin Nolan and Joey Barton who weren't afraid to battle for them in the Championship. Nobody in their present team can offer that same level of crucial experience like they had back then. I think in their starting line up last night there was only Matt Ritchie who had good experience of the Championship. Add to that at least a third of the league could realistically challenge for the title whereas in 09/10 West Brom seemed to be the only side able to catch them.
