    The story (according to my dad and granddad) was that the ships were made in Sunderland and then were taken to Newcastle to be fitted out.

    This is what I was told, many, many moons ago. I always found it strange that someone's ship building heritage would be used against them <laugh>.

    My home town was renowned for Linoleum but no bugger takes the piss out of that <laugh>.
