There are similarities, but as mentioned, the scale is too vastly different to be comparable. Honestly, if we did what City did, I'd hate it as they have taken the short cut to success. The money involved is astronomical and obscene, they have been very fortunate with happening upon a stadium that Manchester City Council couldn't afford and City were renting, they were allowed just before FFP rules to sign an obscene deal for naming rights to the stadium at a vastly inflated price, they like Real Madrid are plastic clubs and play things of the grossly rich, it's only a guess but I'd say very few of the people that attend actually remember the real roots of the club and what it's like to genuinely struggle as a club.

It's a wider issue than Man City, Chelsea, etc, but I still believe that as football gets less and less classy, we're standing out as a club that show that success in a number of levels can be achieved in a sustainable way that doesn't turn off fans and still builds a club from the ground up.

Jose has his old squad number. Would have thought he wouldn't have been allocated one had he been leaving.

 

That's what I thought yesterday when I seen the new numbers came out.......fingers crossed.

 

Swear Fonte only signed a new contract last season, anyone know how many years he has left?

We should just refuse to sell him even if he says he wants to leave. He signed saying he is happy to stay with us for however many years, we are well within our right to make him honour that.

He's contracted to 30.06.2018. By all reliable accounts he's having his contract substantially improved at the moment. Especially as he's the skipper and his market value reached its highest point on 1st August since he's been at the club. So even, if we didn't know it already, the outside football world reckon he's worth it. If any footballer is actually worth the money.

 

Well he hasn't gone anywhere as yet, so it would be a pretty staggering decision not to allocate a squad number just in case he does!
