Final pre season game, bit of a biggie, against one of the best teams in Europe.

    Borussia Dortmund v Sunderland

    Venue: Cashpoint Arena, Altach, Austria.

    Friday 5 August KO 7pm

Eight-time German champions and European Cup winners Borussia Dortmund need little introduction when it comes to footballing grandeur.

The Bundesliga giants promise to be a stern and compelling final test for Sam Allardyce’s Sunderland, before the gruelling Premier League routine begins.

With a fanbase of more than 115,000 supporters, their 81,000-seater home at the Westfalenstadion is a regular sell-out, famed for its ‘Yellow Wall’ of sound and 55,000 devoted season ticket holders.

German manager Thomas Tuchel took over last summer after the departure of Jurgen Klopp to Anfield, steering his side to a second-placed league finish.

They also finished runners-up in the German Cup final, narrowly losing 4-3 to rivals Bayern Munich.

Standout striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted 39 times in all competitions last season, with Marco Reus and Henrikh Mkhitaryan co-starring from both respective wings.

This highly-anticipated clash promises to be a wonderful finale to an exciting pre-season. It will be contested at the 8,500 capacity Cashpoint Arena in Altach, Austria.

    Sam Allardyce's Sunderland ?
It will be a big test and I would expect both teams to field a strong starting 11. I will be driving up to Durham on Friday night so will miss it but will be checking this page, so keep us updated.

2.5 hours (or less) drive across Switzerland, Altach is very close to the border. Oddly enough even though I live in eastern France getting to Evian was a longer drive, mainly due to needing to go around that big lake.

I think there`s been much better planning if this pre seasons matches. A gradual build up of difficulty with this last one being the stiffest test.

The FA managed to hoy a spanner in the works but we just have to cope with that.

Still far better than last years shambles.

Take out the SA and England circus, the planning and prep of pre seaon games has been excellent. Great game to end them (potentially)

Their home stadium is the most daunting in football, I wish we were playing there. One hell of a tough game this, and we need 3 players in before then.

Just to let anyone going to the game know its on the safc website that the kick off time has been changed. Instead of kicking off at 7.00pm local time (6.00pm bst) the game will now kick off 6.45pm local (5.45pm bst).

Sunderland AFC supporters travelling to Austria for the club’s final pre-season friendly are advised that the game will kick off slightly earlier than originally stated.

The Black Cats will play German giants Borussia Dortmund at the Cashpoint Arena in Austria, the home of SC Rheindorf Altach, on Friday 05 August, at 6.45pm local time (5.45pm BST).

Fans unable to travel to Austria can watch the game live on Sunderland AFC’s official website, by logging on to www.safc.com/live. The live stream will feature commentary from Simon Crabtree and Kevin Bal

Like I said earlier about the 18:45 kick off, it has been set at this time for 3 weeks at least according the SCRA (host stadium) web site.
Anyone who has got a ticket will have seen this in any case.

So, assuming no updates on the injury front, we'll be lining up something like this:

    ------------------ Mannone --------------------
    Larsson-------Kone-----Kaboul------ JOS
    -----------------Catts-----Rodwell------------
    Lens---------------Khazri-----------Watmore
    --------------------Borini------------------------

Presumably with a bench full of U21s?

****ing hell, Dortmund must be pissing themselves. We're getting relegated.

I reckon it will be more like this...I think Jones and Paddy will play, but certainly not Defoe, and possibly not Kirchoff:

    ------------------ Mannone --------------------
    Jones-------Kone-----Kaboul------ Paddy
    ---------------Catts-----Rodwell------------
    Watmore----------Khazri---------------Lens
    --------------------Borini------------------------

SUBS: Pickford, JOS, Robson (Tom - LB), Larsson, Kirchoff, Robson (Ethan), Honeyman, Greenwood, Gooch, Asore

"Wafffer-theen", said the French waiter to Mr Creosote.
