Sacked by Everton, lands a job in charge of a team off all talents. Strange game this football. Former Everton, Wigan and Swansea manager Roberto Martinez has been appointed as the new head coach of Belgium. Spaniard Martinez, 43, was sacked by the Toffees in May after three years in charge at Goodison Park. He succeeds Marc Wilmots, who left his post last month, two weeks after the Euro 2016 quarter-final defeat by Wales.
Certainly didn't see that one coming...He comes across as real nice guy, but I doubt he has what it takes at that level...but good luck to him, I hope he make a good go of this chance.
Belgium are massive under-achievers. They are the epitome of a group of talented individuals as opposed to a 'team'
He could do well there, he has no idea how to defend but that team is blessed with attackers who'd bang teams for fun if they clicked.
Definately - could do a toppa job. I think Everton undetachieved under Moyes - well organised but with the quality of players should have been higher imo. Martinez did start improving things but it was too different to the solid organised Moyes team - still in transition phase imo De Boer will reap the benefits of the Martinez Everton.
They finished between 4-7th 7 of his 10 years are you suggesting he ever had a squad better than that, that's ludicrous.
Ok - I hope he achieves same and is as successful here - I have my doubts though esp the time factor. I really hope I'm wrong
Hes got a ready made defence aswell so that shouldnt be a problem for them. Kompany is world class and Aldeweireld and Vertongen know eachother inside out.
Martinez has not got a clue about defending, which was a huge contributing factor when he got sacked at Everton. Martinez had a top 8 team at Everton and turned them into a bottom half side. That tells me all I need to know about him. I think Koeman (not De Boer) will do a very good job at Everton, as it happens.
Exactly, no excuses - even if Kompany is a crock. Although he'll probably somehow figure out how to ruin their defence.
