I defended Glen more than most. Thought he was great going forward and harshly criticised defensively too. You simply can't be in two places at once, he was just doing what he knew and was asked to do.

However, the last couple of years with us were shocking and he deserved the stick he got in the end.

Jones was just before my time I really got into it, just think arbeloa's versatility at LB as we'll helps him as well as playing regularly in CL which finnan didn't really do. Both were a 7/10 every week without fail though.

Agreed. He was never the best defender but got a lot of stick unfairly at times. He was England's best defender at 2010 WC I think it was and showed that he can defend. Problem was as you say, early years he wasn't best defender but made up for it going forward, often pushing their LW back with him, but in lasst few years his attacking ability disappeared and he couldn't use that to cover his poor defending.

Its ta similar to Moreno, defensively they are prob on par, and if Moreno added a lot going forward he'd prob get away with it more often but because he doesn't really do much going forward, he's kinda just meh in both aspects

Glen Johnson was great defensively 1v1. Its just a shame he suffers from the modern full back problem of being unable to defend the back post and seemingly consistently unaware of any impending dangers defensively. I think it might just be a product of full backs in today's game being asked to concentrate more on the attacking side of the game

Babbel is one the very few examples of LFC buying a genuine world class player at his peak. Massive shame about his injury/condition.

Arbeloa and Finnan were my faves and are the definition of reliable.

I do like clyne but he's so poor on the ball and he's not as good defensively.

Jonas Hector rumours surfacing again - Echo says that we don't rate him at £20m but Daily Mail saying we're still interested.

Finnan was comfortable on both sides, he was as two footed as they come. He won the CL after starting out in the non-leagues and then playing in every division on the way up too.

Jones was very comfortable on either side too.

you hit the nail on the head here. 7/10 consistently is what you need. thats no errors, you don't have free crossing flying in off your wing and you are there for the over lap and knocking a cross in. thats it.. no fancy dan antics needs.

Riise was an awful full back. Had the turning circle of the Queen Mary stuck on the river Alt. Excellent at left-midfield/wing back though.

I sort of hope that's true but I've only seen him on telly a few times. Can't help but feel that if he was that good we wouldn't have made Chilwell our #1 target.

I think we are definitely after him - the problem is price and whether he wants to join us.

I think our transfer plans massively changed when we lost the EL final.

He's a top defender - but £20m is crazy money for a full back.

But then again, we did pay stupid money for GW, mane, Benteke etc ...

Gok Wan? Well he'd certainly have you covered around the back, that's for sure.

Couldn't give a **** about the fee anymore, just need a decent LB before the season starts.
