Proven scorers are at a premium, simple economics. We just can't compete with the bigger clubs and even some of the smaller clubs. I still think we should go for Lee Gregory before he's snapped up, he's probably the best available in our price-range...
The Phillips money just about covers the drop in parachute payments this season. Fer's sale pays for the players we've brought in over the summer. They're clearly looking at attacking players hence being in for this bloke in the first place but it's a good sign we aren't just signing blank cheques any more.
Not sure where they propose the goals come from unless we put some dough up. We will be in this like for the foreseeable it seems, really frustrating the see how stinjey the our club has become.
But better than being a joke club driving itself bust paying over inflated prices and insane wages to anyone an agent suggested, surely? We have to grow our own and buy potential. We can't afford 'proven'. And when these home grown and bought cheap players get good, we will sell them for profit.
As i said we have gone from Harrods to Lidl overnight thanks to mismanagement from TF/Harry/Hughes/Bungle. We all know we need a striker but once again we have left the business until the 11th hour. I thought i read under JFH we would get players in early with no last minute panic? Guess what? As i said, even if Polter and Washington have good seasons we are still short up front and it will cost us.
It's very depressing, Polter and Washington don't have 15 goals between them, we will struggle this year for sure. It won't be long until FFP gets thrown out, I wonder what our excuse will be then?
With all due respect you must of been living under a rock for the last 15 years, we simply do not have the infrastructure in place to produce our own players. Sterling is the only one of note I recall, and he didn't come up through our ranks, he signed at 14 or 15 if I recall correctly, let's stop deluding ourselves here that we can honestly have a production line of youngsters coming through, we won't and haven't had for many many years.
I shall be taking a sabbatical from here until the transfer window finishes, fed up with it all at the moment and I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel as it stands.
I'm not really sure who you expect us to buy. The market is nuts and money at the club is tight after literally hundreds of millions being wasted in the last five years. Any good striker is going to command a big fee and wages beyond what any of the recent signings are on. That can easily be counter-productive. Any QPR fan above ten has seen much worse.
OK so we've missed out on an Icelandic forward who hardly has a fantastic goal record, the price has been inflated because they did so well at the Euro's. To me he's more a wide player anyway, and I think we can bring in someone as good if not better in this position. £8 million odd for Pritchard is ridiculous, way out of our range.I know we inquired about a loan deal, but to me this is no great loss. We've got until the end of this month to strengthen the squad,it's a long old slog. Let's hope that we can get in a couple of players that will make the team stronger and that represent value for money, instead of the hyped up,overpaid tossers that previous muppets wasted all our cash on !
Agree. But I doubt not getting a good striker in yet is JFH fault. He is probably being held back by Les, Hoos and TF for the economic reasons others repeatedly mention. But I also have the feeling we have gone from shopping at a Harrods past their use by date outlet to something worse than Lidl, while we should be somewhere in between. The financial rewards of getting back in the PL are truly massive, but to have a shout at getting back there, we will need to make some wise investments in the market. The Icelandic forward goes to Wolves for 2.5 million. We paid more for Washington, who does not look as good as Bovardsson
If allowed to play, they should easily score 20-25 between them. Now that Conner has broken his duck, he'll continue to score. Poulter will also be better second season in. It all comes down to the midfield feeding them. A third striker would certainly be beneficial.
I don't think Washington scoring in a friendly counts, he needs to do it in a league game. How JFH and SLF can't source a striker between them is beyond me - surely with their backgrounds they could spot some overlooked talent.
Correct me if im wrong, but are competely broke or are we just extra cautious??? Im sure that TF and SLF knows we dont go anywhere with Washington&BFG. Good goalscorer will cost a lot but without him/them we can just concentrate to midtable succsess if we are lucky.
I think our scouts are the most useless pricks at our club,we know the areas where we are short, and have done for some time. These mugs are paid to go out there are find us viable replacements.Tha t means looking at 3 wingers and 3 strikers minimum, then if you get knocked by one or two you can move on to the next one and so on.We seem to have one specific player in mind each time, and when they end up going somewhere else we're screwed.I don't know if JFH wants Pritchard or not,but we we're only ever going to get him on loan and that was never going to happen. The same thing applies to Bamford,we can't afford a fee and only want a loan,it's only a matter of time before another club buys him.If the scouts did their job properly,we should already be in talks with various players !
The club is a loss making concern, even under the new miser regime. So we are worse than completely broke, we get more broke every day. We are also in a Catch 22 as the only way to not be completely broke is to get promoted, but to do that we risk getting even more completely broke and failing. The owners have tried that route, getting us completely broke in the process, and seem not to be inclined to do it again. Last season was a chaotic mess, a demoralising relegation, lumbered with a bunch of overpaid no effort ****ers, two managers, no continuity, no shape. This season could well be different. You don't need to spend a fortune to get a good team.
