I know @Treble Stan etc got increasingly sick of Roon over the past couple of years. But he was OK last night. And has been good for England over past couple of years in qualifiers anyway. Was it maybe a case of Roon hating LVG. Can Jose get better out of him? Jose is good at getting best out of English (relatively limited Brain wise) players like Frank and John who obey him. Obviously Jose not great at getting best out of cleverer players like Mata who challenge him
A few less Hollywood passes (which will come in time) and I think he will prove to be very effective in midfield and at the same time provide an additional attacking threat. He seems to have an eye for a good pass and his experience as striker will help him play the ball into good positions for our faster, younger players. Win, Win for the club.
If we don't get any further it'll then be #blamerooney time. He was our best player last night. We didn't win because Hodgson took him off. That and the ****e goalkeeper of course.
Not from me. I'm just interested in seeing if he can maintain that level against a better midfield and attack, which is where I have my doubts.
Good game v Wales too. A poor game v Portugal etc would not invalidate his performances v Wales and Russia. Unless you have an agenda against Rooney and want it to fit your narrative. Jose may surprise you and get a lot out of him next season
indeed shone a little in the qualifiers but has never been top draw when it came to the nitty gritty.
Wayne Rooney 7 mins · I've got some exciting news to share.....Tomorrow's testimonial match between Manchester United and Everton Football Club will be streamed live on Facebook - on both my page and the Manchester United page. I'm delighted to give my fans around the world a chance to watch the game as we try to raise as much money as possible for the Wayne Rooney Foundation! Thanks for your support!
Anyone feeling the Rooney live on testimonial night? I'm not. There was a good article in The Independent the other day which said Rooney will always be unloved and untrusted by many United fans as he was a twat about potential exits twice (in two very different but equally twattish ways). I go along with that.
Too much of a mercenary for my taste, plus the lack of scoring has cost us dear in the last few seasons. You can't knock a man who devotes himself to his family, but I do get a sense that he has all he needs and the hunger has gone. For the wages the club pays I would expect him to be losing a leg to get the ball over the line and we simply haven't seen enough of that. I'll watch, but for no other reason than I want to see how everyone is gelling pre-season. I really didn't expect JM to follow DM and LvG in playing the 'love Rooney' card.
