    I am surprised that after watching Long over the last two seasons that anyone would consider not playing him down the middle as the first option. It is his best position.

    I would do if part of a front 2, but think Austin as the spearhead, Long from wide, works better if it's a front 1.

    Few rumours sill floating around about us looking at Saido Berahino. I really hope they are true. I reeeeaally rate him. We would have most of the core of the England u21's playing for us then. Redmond, JWP, Saido...

    That "no deal", simply means, offer us more, and we'll consider it.

    I'd be surprised if Celtic would turn down an extra million to have a player for one more (2-legged) game.

    But of course it is a fair argument to say 'should Saints spend that just to have a player for 4/5 extra games?'.

    And thus, this is why the window finishing end of August is stupid. Way too disruptive.

    Celtic would most likely only have considered an earlier deal IF we had offered extra the same amount they'd have got for qualifying for the CL group stages

    As it stands it is Redmond in for Mane, Hoijberg for Wanyama, Austin for Pelle and McCarthy/Lewis for Stek/Gazza. With Pied a depth signing. Obviously a few weeks to go and the outlook could easily change but depending on calibre of signings I think we'll have a weaker squad this year.

    Fair enough, it's all about opinons. I felt that Shane never really offered too much when out wide. I felt it restricted him and he never looked natural out there. If Charlie is the central choice, I'd play Remond wide.

    I see no problem with Saints willing to wait until after the CL qualifiers. Respectful...to be patient and wait. No point in pissing people off....we got our man.
