    To clear it up.

    1. A club finds out there's a release clause.
    2. They bid that amount.
    3. The terms of the contract mean it's automatically accepted by the club.
    4. The player is then allowed to speak to the buying club if they choose to. The other club makes the approach but can be rebuffed by the player.
    5. If the player accepts, it's over and he's gone.

Precisely. Not sure why peter is pretending step 3 doesn't happen.

What is being "silly" or "pedantic" about being right. Tell me where I am wrong.
Our involvement is limited to receiving £4.5m if Diame moves to Newcastle.
Hull City do not have to accept the offer.

3 doesn't happen. If 2 happens then they go straight to 4.

If i understand right its all down to the player. If he likes the new terms offered by Newcastle he can go, Hull City could offer him a better deal than he currently has in the hope he will stay, but our club can't force him to stay with us.

Step 3 does happen, its a safety clause put in by players to ensure they can have some power should their valuation be met. If a release clause is met, then the player is free to leave should they accept terms at the buying club. Thats why citys only way of hokding onto diame is offering him a new inproved contract which will hopefully be more lucrative then the deal offered by newcastle.

Yes, we receive money which we are forced to accept. We have no say. <doh>

We is there an argument about transfers on the New Manager thread?
There is a lot of cross-threadedness on this board.
(Obvs there are a lot of arguments, but there always are)

We could refuse to accept the money if we wanted but the offer is sufficient to ensure the deal goes ahead.

It does happen, if it didn't then it wouldn't meet the contractual clause would it? The money is bid to the club for Diame, it forces us to accept the bid. The release clause is only triggered if the money is bid to the club, if they didn't it wouldn't be met.

I know what you're trying to say, that step 3 is 'immaterial' and in truth it is, but it still happens, the club still inform the other club that the clause has been met.

"A contract can also be terminated provided that the release clause is paid."

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...nch-club-look-replace-Zlatan-Ibrahimovic.html

No mention of the club having to accept the deal. The contract is terminated when the release clause is paid. Obviously, no club in their right mind would pay without also having a contract with the player conditional on the release clause being paid.

I think the buying club would know that because the players agent waved the contract in front of them.

Can we reject an offer that triggers a release clause?

We can do anything we want. We can burn the offer if we want. We CAN accept the offer. Whatever we do the deal between Diame and Newcastle would still go ahead if they both agree because Newcastle have triggered the release clause.

Personally I can see the Allam's loving all this conjecture over who'll be the next manager, they'll be lumping on at 25/1, cashing out as their odds shorten, then moving on to the next candidate, rinse & repeat.

That's probably where the £18M is coming from.

I'm afraid that's not true at all, what would happen if Diame rejects Newcastle? He'd become a free agent?

How would Diame know? Newcastle couldn't speak to him without permission.

We have to accept the bid. Like it or not we HAVE to accept it.
