Just announced McCarthy

 

Knew that must be going ahead as we let Gazza go on loan. Good news...one area we can relax in.

 

It is strange that Gazza has been allowed to go out on loan even if it is to gain experience. Surely he should be ready to take up the role of No. 2 goalkeeper? I can't recall seeing him play for the first team for ages but it is strange that he doesn't seem to have fulfilled his potential. When Saints initially signed him, he obviously wasn't fully developed but there were a number of scouts from other teams who were also on his trail and I understand that he was fancied by many of the people sent to want Colchester. In a way this echoes the other goalkeeper who I think was called Paul Smith who was an understudy in the 1990s and ended up going to Bournemouth.

Regarding Fonte, I am not surprised that he has attracted the attention of Everton and Man Utd. Whenever I read about foreign signings for the club, it is always the great Ivan Golac whose name gets a mention but surely we have now reached a point where Fonte must easily be considered to have been our best overseas acquisition. I would struggle to name anyone quite as talismatic for the Saints after Rickie Lambert.

 

Lundekvam is the only overseas player to have earned a testimonial - as a club we didn't reach the consistent heights we have the last few seasons, but he formed several very good partnerships.

Very possibly as being a L1 team, despite paying good wages at that level, was below his perceived standard and surprised many at the time.

I hate the idea of him going to the second best team in liverpool, but really feel it would take a far better team or 'let's bankrupt our club' wages from Ron's folly to shift him. That said I hope they sign someone soon, I fear for their fans very sanity at the moment as the 100mill cheque keeps bouncing.

 

Who cares what Everton do, I hope they crumble! And don't think they'll even be top 6 this season to be honest.

 

It's his birthday today, maybe they didn't get him a cake...

About 62m received.

It's not about how much you spend but how you spend it. We have a lot of players on improved contracts but we must be due one or 2 juicy targets to come. I would love it if we snatched someone from under the noses of Everton.

 

McCarthy is better than Stekelenburg, and younger, and has more recent regular first team experience, and we pay him less. That's what I don't understand about The Everton Way.

Hearing Williams to Everton is close. Tough on Swansea but I'd rather they lost their Fonte than risk losing ours.

 

Does that mean he's no longer welsh?

 

Rumours are that Chelsea have bid £68m for Lukaku.

 

Makes the £40m they paid for Torres look like small change.

 

What a waste of money.
