Starting soon the 9th season of the Spurs Prediction League

Why not take part in this well established game and add more interest to Spurs league matches. You never know you could end as the season's champion and get your name on the honours board.
The game is open to all Spurs fans and selected others. New players are very welcome.

The opening game of the new season is on August 13th away to Everton a traditional Saturday at 3pm fixture. I will place a new thread for each League game. I hope you will decide to join in this fun game and good luck with your predictions. <ok>

Taking into account that we were playing upside down it was a useful exercise for the younger members of of our team.

Life requires that you laugh as often as you can smithy. <laugh> I haven't heard the expression silly sausage since my grandfather described me in that way many many years ago. Today's expressions tend to be a little harder.

You must remember,I come from an age of coal fires and no telly.
Dick Barton Special Agent and Journey into Space at 6-45 for 15 minutes every night.
Plus Saturday morning pictures.....where mum would load you on a trolleybus and send one to the Wood Green Gaumont while she did her shopping,or what ever!
Where, after watching a western,we kids would go charging up the High Street on our "horses". Oh me!

I remember all that too. Especially liked Lemmy from Journey into Space and Uncle Mac with Childrens Favourites on the wireless. My favourite was 'Sparky' a talking piano and 'The Runaway Train'. Up until the early '50s we still had our milk delivered by horse & cart! To my shame my Mum often went out with her bucket & shovel to collect the 'manure' the horse regularly left! She loved her garden!
Do you remember the winter of 1947? We couldn't get any coal delivered for weeks because the snow & ice was so severe the poor horses that did our round could not stand up. People had to go to the train station & queue up to buy a sack of coal. I was only 5 but I've never forgotten that bitter winter. ( No double glazing, windows frozen on the inside, no fitted carpets, cold lino, no central heating, they don't know they're born these days) It was a special year though 'cos it was my first ever trip to the Lane after it had warmed up a bit!

I don't remember the 47 winter but I can recall mum taking me to infant school in the smog and almost being run down by a milk wagon, one of those battery things.Very quiet.
We had a model traffic area in Lordship Rec in Tottenham where I would spend a penny to hire a bike for 15 minutes. If I recall,I was quite mad when I got it. Traffic lights never stood a chance! But it was great fun.Wonder why I never received a safety award?
I played football for my several schools.Never being able to have my own boots.Always borrowed them.I once turned out, when I was 11,using my teachers size 5's....and I only took size 2's...then.Never got my own boots until I started work aged 15.
....and,of course, our yearly visit to the Cockney Riviera known as Southend-on Sea.On the way being amazed how the buses changed colour from red to green to blue.
I think todays kids would think us rather dull and penniless.Wouldn't be far from the truth....maybe!!!!?

.....and the Tottenham's weren't interested in schoolboy footballers as they are today.

I do remember the 1962-63 winter. That was a beast and many games were cancelled. We should have won the league that season but came unstuck....again!
The FA Cup match with Burnley,AT HOME! was a disaster.A lot of lost tempers.....and we lost 3-0.
Of course,we did put it together and won the European Cup Winners Cup 5-1.When they (Atletico) equalized we thought "oops!",but Terry Dyson came good and scored a soppy goal that their keeper should have kept out,but who's complaining. After Terry's goal it became a cakewalk.....and without Dave Mackay too!

As the winter set in,most sports were cancelled....except the greyhounds. As I worked at Hackney Stadium then,it was odd to see crowds of 10,000 when the attendance was usually under 2,000.
The punters would go mad when we ran out of race cards and they had to print form on sheets of paper!

If it weren't for the fact that I'm due to be flying out from London City in a few hours time, I'd join in this trip down memory lane with you Maggie and Smithy. You forgot the Dexters at 6.45 as well! And my mum used to find US Forces programmes from Stuttgart and Munich, where we got early pop songs before they got to this country..... and the Odeon cinema was on the corner of the road where I lived (not in Wood Green - that came later!) so on busy Saturday mornings the queue would stretch up towards our house - one particular Saturday we heard our neighbour calling out to his wife "Hey come and look, Ethel*, Kids - farsands of 'em!" ( * can't remember her real name!) And we had milk from the co-op - with cardboard tops on them that the birds used to peck through if you didn't get it in quick enough! Oh no more time now..........!

And Spurf, please accept a ditty-less prediction for the first game: Everton 1 Spurs 1 (Kane).

    Must pack now!

    Love to all - audrey
Ain't it good to have the league back!

I'm going to make a prediction, hopefully the first of 38 this season but no guarantees Spurf <whistle>

Everton 1 - 3 Tottenham (Kane, Lamela, Dier)

Koeman will probably transform Everton this season but I'm hoping he hasn't quite started to work his magic yet.
