am thinking about being a loyal supporter of one of the big teams just for this season but can't work out which one to chose - utd, liverpool, city, chels, spurs? How are you supposed to chose? i dont come from any of them and am not from near by either and i certainly wont go to any games. But i really want to be a big fan so i can feel good after we win
You can do better than that Jonny!! If you are a true glory hunter who really likes good quality football, how about a team from the Iberian Peninsula? After all Real's second string proved superior to Chelsea's second string. I would imagine their first choice to be superior to Chelsea's strongest 11. So forget the English glory boys and go Spanish!! I see increasing numbers of youngsters on the streets here wearing Barca or Real outfits thus providing proof that they prefer class to the plasticity offered up by Chelsea, United and the other wannabes like City, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool.
Thanks Ideas of March. That's a really good point. I have been to Barcelona once for a long weekend too so have some history their. I support Barcelona Sod all you Premier league scum
Jonny was referring, tongue in cheek, to the glory boys in the Premiership, and not the likes of Saints, Stoke, WBA and Middlesborough, whose support comes from the region rather than nationwide.
I've bumped into a few Saints in Algarve once. I was walking by the pool and just happend to clock the "aap" sponsor rather than the colour of the top one of them had on. Got chatting and we spent the rest of holiday pretty much talking about the new season.
I hear there's a pretty good team down on the south coast that might interest you Jonny. They win a lot and they get better every year. The teams you mention are always after their players and yet it doesn't affect them at all. Although they are everbody's favourite second team they could be your first choice. I can't think of a better team to follow.
been saints supporter for 25 years but just fancied a change for this year only. i want to feel that trophy winning glory boy feeling Bit like a season long loan but at a bigger club (rather than league 1 / championship).
Always find it funny how we all instantly chat to a saints fan or even another English person in a foreign environment and yet we probably wouldn't pass much more than a second glance on home soil. There is probably a fancy name for this phenomenon
The phenomenon, if you want to call it that, is that they are much rarer out of the UK than in. As it happens. I tend not to chat to other Saints fans while on holiday as I am on holiday, usually with friends who are anything but football fans. So it doesn't tend to be encouraged and I take the hint.
There are lots of Saints fans that don't come from the region. I actually was born in Winchester as was my Dad however I know a few Saints fans in Lincoln and most of them are about the same age as me. i.e. glory boys that got into football in 83/84. One of my mates who was born in '73 was given the middle name Sunderland. HE of course supports Liverpool as lots of 70s and 80s kids do. I even have a younger mate who supports Blackburn. lol
