    This could be similar to the Vardy situation. Drumming up interest by his agent to get Southampton to offer him a nice pay rise, which seems as though we are doing anyway. Or there could be genuine interest and he may well want to go to work with Mourinho and have a crack at the CL before he retires. From what he has said over the years I would be surprised if he did move on...

    Haven't Everton just signed Ashley Williams, or isn't that happening?
    How many elder statesmen do Everton need, to play alongside that other young'un, Jagielka?

    Jose going would be like Channon leaving in the 70's with bells on. We all knew that Mick left because, despite his best efforts, we weren't getting out of the second division. Jose could only be going for the last big pay cheque. I wouldn't begrudge it him, but it would tarnish his image.

    Before I post this, I'd just like to point out that I have been wrong before.
    Right, I can't see JF leaving & chasing an extra % at this stage at all. He is paid very well, Mr Mendes has already made sure his loyalty has been correctly rewarded, & SFC didn't put up a struggle. He has been on the whole journey, he doesn't just talk it, he knows it. He has achieved so much by taking a step down and joining us, and this summer has cemented his place in football folklore. I think he we be very happy to see out his days with us, even when the time comes when he will be a squad player, a club captain like SKD. I reckon he already has designs on a massive shiny brilliant testimonial which will be an occasion that none of us will want to miss.
    What offer could be worth jeopardising that for, Utd, China (everton <laugh> ), no chance!

    Yeah, but that's hardly an absolute declaration that he won't leave, and thus thin justification to get upset if he 'breaks his word' by going.

    Not that I'd expect him to leave, but I'd hate for people to consider Fonte of all people a turncoat for failing to stick to promises he never made.

    That's my point. I think you misunderstood what I was saying completely.

    He said never say never. He left the door open a crack. Not sure how you misunderstood that and certainly not a thin justification for anything. Read a post or two back of mine and I said my opinion of him wouldn't change if he left.
