Mathew Kelly accused of casual racism because he assumed a Japanese chef would cook Japanese food, whereas he cooked Mediterranean cuisine. Kelly said something nice about Japanese food when he met him. How exactly is that racist? The chef himself wasn't phased but hyper-sensitive fans on twitter were on his behalf. Get a life.

Well I was probably being lazy. Hopefully, I'm usually quite clear on these things. I kind of hoped that people who commented back would remember that I lost interest in F1 years ago. So that was my latest tense, if you like. These days the sport has zero attraction, and so I'm not best placed to like or dislike the blokes now. I simply don't care anymore and haven't for what must be over 15 years now. I think you'll agree, it's probably not my fault. F1 did it to me early, just as it will end up doing it to everyone until the powers that be realise that racing is about overtaking other drivers on the track. Not getting all gooey about fuel loads, tyre pressures and wear. That's for the auto nerd, not the general viewing public.

If you look up the thread you'll see what I think about the cars themselves.

Those photos could be many coastal places in the South and East, FLT. I feel like I know that place. The top photo feels like Emsworth or Keyhaven. I would have plumped for Cowes on the lower one, but the church throws me. Don't recognise that. There's a touch of the IOW about it, but not enough.

And I used to be so good at this stuff. I reached a peak with DTLW being on the beach in Essex looking at the Kent power station and now it's all gone downhill. ;)

    Normandy coast.

Sorry, I thought I'd remembered you saying you'd sailed a bit of France too.

A little further south and west. Fishing port of Granville. Never been before and used it as a stopover for the last night. Cute little spot.

Lovely, like Cornwall but with better cuisine.

More like the channel Islands come to think of it

Funnily enough, I had typed that FLT had sprung a picture from the Channel Islands on me, but removed it as I just wasn't sure. Besides, I've never sailed there. :)

Brilliant! I've had the "luck" to have done 3 balloon trips in South Africa and one in Namibia (over the dunes as the sun came up) - utterly amazing and a great way to see wildlife .......... I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Never felt unsafe, even though there are the occasional accidents. If I stopped doing it because of that, I may as well not drive my car!!

Met him at a F1 Masters event in South Africa. He was "okay" (though a bit full of himself), Murray Walker and most of the other drivers were amazing though and stood around chatting to fans for hours!

I have a Turkish ex-colleague who has suddenly started praising the president and the government there, yet I know from previous correspondence, that he is definitely a moderate who was concerned with what was going on. Now he's invited me to his summer house in Bodrum at the end of August. I feel there's something going on, but I daren't ask him outright, as I'm wondering if his e-mails, etc are being monitored ......... Am I being paranoid and I'm wondering if I should go just to have a real chat with him? Quandary!!

I would always side with caution and suspect his correspondence is being monitored.

Wow, sounds like you've had a fair few African adventures! Indeed, I didn't feel unsafe either.

And with regards the correspondance, I'm with LTL, better to be cautious. And with what's been going on over there, I wouldn't even say it's cautious, just sensible.

Just watching the Proms Bowie tribute. Lots of people slagging it off but I think it's pretty good. Neil Hannon from Divine Comedy was excellent, Marc Almond less so.

People get terribly precious about going near Bowie though (as I well know!) They should just chill a bit on that.

Neil Hannon, the Steven Davis of musicians. Underrated, consistent, never grabs the headlines but can rely on him producing the goods.
