That's probably what's written on Les's envelope. 2 years at 100k or 3 years at a bit less.

When Cortese was asked if he could envisage paying a player £100k a week he said yes if we are regular top 6 side and in the Champions League
He may be right this season?

And he said that while we were in League One, if I'm not mistaken.

Let's face it, Fonte deserves to be our highest played player. He has been here since the start, bought into the clubs philosophy, become an incredible leader and player. He took a step down to join us, and has risen up to win the European Championship and lead us into Europe.
Normally I detest the high wages in football, but if any player in the Premier League deserves to be a clubs highest earner, it's him.

What is all the guff I am reading about Koeman bidding £9m for Fonte and it scuppering Mourinho's plans to bring him to United?

Perhaps if he can no longer play at the same standard, he could be put out to stud....<whistle>

Correct I am fairly sure it was in our second year when we go promoted.
Not sure he expected to be paying it to Jose but no one deserves it more!

Talking about Koeman being interested in Fonte (admittedly an Everton source). Don't like the bit saying that Fonte signed a new contract with the proviso that we wouldn't stand in his way if a bigger offer came in. Not sure about that....anyone know about this....would seem unlikely, would Jose expect a better offer to come in for him at his age. Would break my heart:emoticon-0101-sadsm:emoticon-0153-broke

I think he had a very clear idea where he wanted the club to go and what he wanted it to do. I don't think it's a million miles from what it does now, but I suspect, with his impatience, he would have wanted a faster rise, so as not to let the momentum slow.

I can't see us selling anybody to Everton, least of all our captain.

I'd think the big money for Fonte isn't necessarily to fend off interest, but rather us showing loyalty to a player that has been loyal to us. We need to practise what we preach when we ask players to stay and play for us, Fonte deserves that sort of money.

As for any possible transfer I think he would prefer to see his career out with saints. He has just won euro 2016 and his career will never be better than that so it makes sense to cement his place as a club legend and see how far he can go with us.

Lets not forget Jose is 33 this year , its at this time in a players career where family comes first. Id imagine a move to a big portuguese side is more likely but if Utd offer Jose 150k a week he may go for one last big pay day

Jose could chase the money if that's what he feels he needs for his family (or even his ambitions if a Champions League club wanted him), it wouldn't change my opinion of him.

He even said "never say never as you don't know what's around the corner"

He earns more than enough for his family already I'm sure most people would agree. He is set for life without a move to Utd for money. I would be very disappointed if he went after all the things he has said in the past but after Koeman who knows? I don't think he will go anywhere personally but we will see.

I don't think that Fonte has said anything that precludes him moving on.
