I applied for a place under the ballot but unfortunately didn't get one but guaranteed for next year... BUT... can you believe they've had to delay the mens classic race as the police in Dorking cannot cope with the amount of people have come out to watch..!!!! I can remember before the 2012 Olympics you saw a few cyclists when you were out.. now its become a huge sport both watching and participating in their country..
I haven't cycled for over 40 years and have just bought a hybrid bike. If you see a rotund man sort of cycling near the Humber Bridge that will be me and the dead giveaway will be the adult stabilizers and large oxygen tank.
You'll have ditched the stabilisers in no time AT... I still feel as though I need oxygen on many rides..
My brother in law raced in this today, he's sixty next week and still does some stages of the Tour de France every year. The fit **** him.
That is impressive well done to him. My Mother , Father and Uncle were all cyclists for Hull clubs (Hull Thursday and Hull Couriers) thought nothing of a ride to Scarborough and back after work !
It's a wonder he's still alive, he lives in London and rides to work and he's ended up in hospital three times, one of them was really bad.
It It's really good he's still cycling at 60. Things on the road have changed so much even round Hull. Obviously in London it's much worse, brave man.
I can't think which is worse.. driving a car in London..... riding a bike in London... driving a car and avoiding bikes being ridden in London.... riding a bike and avoiding cars being driven in London...
Recently I saw a cyclist riding like a madman on the pavement. A car came out of a side street with the driver on his phone and the bike drove right into him. They started blaming each other.
So just to clarify being a newbie to the world of cycling. There's a good chance of me taking part in the Tour De France, visiting several hospitals in London and meeting Lee 'Bagman' Langer all before I'm 60. All within the next 6 years that sounds good where do I sign.
Although my father got loads of trophies and medals from cycling you've got rheumatic knees , piles and varicose veins to look forward to !
When I first started cycling someone called me a 'numb nut'.... after a few long rides I decided they were right ... they were..!!!
When I worked at BAE Brough I cycled to and from work one summer. I got called an arse fly for slip streaming someone on the A63.
Right pissed off, was watching the race then we got a power cut in Pock, just came back on when the race was over
