If the game is an indication of Monks starting 11, then I fear we may have midfield problems......again, not confident in having only a single striker either tbh. If Monk doesn't fix the midfield we're going to be in a Dire Quagmire, again.
http://the72.co.uk/61573/leeds-united-whites-turn-over-serie-a-atalanta-report/ Woods penalty looked good, apparently he scored a goal that was disallowed as the penalty had already been given? Read a report where Monk said the new RB impressed him?? And... We have have as good as signed a 'significant International player' who will be named as soon as the ink is dry...
So, what we have is, Silvestri, who's a good shot stopper but apparently lacking communication with his defence, Green, who should've saved his last 3 goals, had a couple of howlers but communicates with his defence.................where does that leave us......who we got in middle? Imo, I don't think Green is going to be our best 1st choice option. Perico (trialist) I think he could be backup incase Taylor leaves and Berardi plays LB, seems inevitable Taylor is on his way at some stage. The opportunity presented itself, and with a greedy agent in his lug'ole he'll probably make the move. Viera, agreed about him, sounds like a good find, and I'm sure Redders will mention it a few times on radio, however, league games are different, he needs to be consistent and create the impact/s we need. Like I mentioned last season, I think Mowatts lost it, be temporarily or for a longer period. A league match may well ignite his spark, but I'm not convinced. I agree we played with a hole behind our striker/s. I'm not convinced about Wood, especially as a lone striker, couldn't score from open play against Posh or Guiseley, and didn't against Atalanta; may well buck up if we have 2 strikers in a 4-4-2 formation but for me doesn't bring the impact we need required of a consistent striker. League matches are what count though. Good write up Jock...........welcome back....
The penalty was a strange one. I don't remember Wood scoring. Think I might have been cheering if he did. None of us did. We just all looked at each other & wondered where the offside decision came from - until me realised it was a penalty. Apparently it was a handball. Didn't see it. Only seen Diagouraga get his shirt pulled & thought it was a very soft penalty. Btw, forgot to mention earlier - we got a lot of decisions going our way that shouldn't have done IMO. Hope we haven't used up all our luck already!
Have to agree with you on that one. No idea who the best keeper is. Turnbull? Goalie Double-Barrell? I thought Green was being brought in to educate Silvestri. Can't think of any other reason. I'd be delighted if he surprises me.
But that doesn't answer why we sign another RB. Why not a LB to cover for Taylor - whether he goes or not! And why a 32yo - is that building for the future? And if he's that good, why does he need a trial? His CV & other clubs kicking down his front door should tell you whether he's worth signing or not. Honestly, a trial at 32? Pfft!
Based on this game, I'd have to agree with you. But apparently he was quite brilliant in his last run-out. Who knows what's going to happen. One thing to mention is that he looks trimmer than he did last season. He was trim 2 seasons ago when he was on fire, and heavy the season before that. Hopefully it's an omen.
I'd prefer him in a 2 up front, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. Bear in mind that he played against unforgiving Italian CBs today. You won't be tested much more than that, and he did well, tbh. There are not many strikers who play up front on their own that are prolific goalscorers. And remember too - if he's not getting the service, he won't score. It's not just all about him, there is the team aspect to consider.
Agree about the service Jock, which is why I lack some confidence in our midfield, if we don't get that right then we'll be stuffed like last season....
Agree, seems a bit odd trialling a 32yr old at RB, I sense Taylor may not be here long so Berardi will move to LB and maybe Perico is back up for the backup, could be for the experience. Ristac mentioned Monk said the new RB impressed him, although I ain't read the report yet. I too would've preferred another LB brought in as RB is Berardis best and strongest position.
That seemed to be the indication when Green come in, Green mentioned it's probably for one season then he'll be offered the GK coaches job. May well be a another twist Monk hasn't hinted at yet.
I was asking the same questions a while back, just doesn't make sense unless Monk wishes to use Berardi at LB should Taylor go but then it still wouldn't make sense as we would end up one who could play LB and three who can play RB Monk had been offered two prior to this guy who on paper looked better but he challenged Cellino and Mansford to find better. Maybe this is their way of teaching him a lesson, ask for better and you get a 32 year old that has only played 200 games.
I was further away than you, and I would be amazed if the penalty had not been given for a blatant and very extended shirt pull that happened two or three seconds before we "scored". I heard the whistle and few players stopped!
http://www.insidefutbol.com/2016/07...ial-gabriele-perico-signing-for-leeds/297542/ Monks thoughts on Perico
Glorys thoughts on Perico .... Worst of the three RBs we would have if we signed him. So who is getting sold, because there is no point keeping him otherwise. GLORYS thoughts on monk if the above is true. Monk is going to be as much a yes man as Redfearn, and Cellino is still interfering in team affairs ( we knew the second bit already)!
Well that's what we thought the penalty was for, and thought it was soft (on the basis that he was running across the periphery of a packed penalty box, and we'd have been disappointed to get it against us), but I've since read (YEP?) that it was for a handball. It was a most peculiar decision, & the silence on & off the field underlined this. Don't think anyone even claimed for a penalty. The players looked as bewildered as us.
You always look bewildered. The white shirt was pulled so much it would have fitted Eire afterwards. Were you the invisible man yesterday. Twice I walked the aisle by your seat and didn't spot you. Have you moved?
