We'd have been in the play offs comfortably. Instead - Muzza cashed in for a paltry £4m offer and we never returned to that position. He was a top bloke at the club - made a huge effort to organise player events in our relegation season from the Premiership to try and help the team bond.
Afternoon All A bit of a sad situation - but AH notified me that he's retired from the forum. I hope you all echo my sentiments In thanking him. He was the original moderator on here - and built the foundations, whilst getting the website off the ground. His efforts deserve to be recognised. That's without going in to the fact he was a big presence on the old BBC equivalent. With that, I'm in need of someone to moderate with me - on here, and help with the twitter too. If you're interested - then PM me. If I receive multiple (serious) 'applicants' then I'll run a poll. I don't mean to make it sound like a coveted position, nor am encouraging competition - but I'd like to somewhat make it fair, and a decision the whole group can take part in. As a labour man - you'd have thought I might have learnt about democracy Thanks in advance guys. And thanks once again to AH.
Very sad news about AHLL leaving - one of the stalwarts and the good guys who called it right on Duchatelet from Day 1. A man of principle who boycotted because RD and KM offended his sense of what Charlton is really about. Hopefully he will reconsider in due course and return, because this site will be the poorer without him IMO.
Just checked out the odds on Paddy Power for next 606 moderator: @DonCorleone 4/7 - the People's Choice Reams Evens Colin 6/4 Always first with the news (but not the truth) Ackers 3/1 UFOs and JFK stories thrown in free of charge Elf 10/1 Would need paying though, as requires a new coat. @DickPlumb 100/1 (ruled out on the grounds of availability - too busy plagiarising Kish, and moderating his other 84 sites) @Sadiejane1981 250/1 (ruled out on the grounds of lack of experience - she has never Moderated a successful site)
Pots and kettles, as a quick check thru your own archive on CL will prove. At least you brought WSW back
Ahh, you missed me. I am deeply touched. However I'm soon to disappear back to Oz until end January 2017 so will have to follow what I believe will be another car-crash season from afar. Will not go down the Valley once I'm back unless Meire has gone. I can tolerate Duchatelet but not Meire.
I'm at the Valley now watching this car crash. Rumours going around the stadium that Meire has told Slade today that he has now got enough players! Ba is playing up front alongside Ajose You couldn't make it up
As it stands - this squad is relegation material. That's not being over dramatic, nor an opinion influenced by what's going on at the Valley today.
Not his fault but out of the players he has shouldn't Slade know his best team now with no more games to try players out in I fear he don't also fear he rates Roger Bleeeding Johnson
Just got back from the beach and ran into the same rumour that KM considers we have 'enough players'. I hope Slade gets asked his opinion on that in the pist match press conference. On other matters, reported a 1600 crowd, including over 250 from Holland. The penny appears to be dropping. I hope AHLL continues to post, sad to be losing a decent moderator but would be hell to lose the person completely.
Just back from today's game. I would be surprised if the real attendance was 1,000. I have posted a video of the inside of the ground, the West Lower wasn't a third full and there was a couple of hundred in the North Lower. The Dutch brought great support, very vocal and around 300 lads. The full strength line up today consisted of Phillips in goal. Back 4 of Thomas, THD, Johnson and Konsa . This a week before the season starts !! Midfield was woeful - Crofts and Foley are like Alan McCormack and run into each other's space. Neither has a trick or any guile. Lookman played out wide with that well known striker Ba supposedly playing up front with an ineffective and lightweight Ajose. Harriott made up the numbers. And that's it folks ! Jacko, Solly and Fox came off the bench but yes - the cupboard really is that bare. And still no sign of Big Tex. Funny that... With Slade supposedly told today that he has enough players, we face a relegation struggle and it is time for CARD to plan mass disruption for the Northampton game.
The "team" today looked like what it is- a cobbled together team of journeymen & kids. Not a shred of quality in sight. The team that Katrien Built.
I can tell you are excited about the new season, Vol, but I think I'll give it a miss. I really enjoyed attending Great Wakering Rovers 3 East Thurrock 2. Quaint little ground, top burger, quality banter and a decent match.
