Klopp is saying he envisions Milners future as a LB makes me wonder: Is Milner going to be a better LB than Downing was?

Bit of a stretch to what he actually said but think he can do a job there.

Those who criticise Milner do so on the grounds that he's workmanlike and unspectacular. Sounds ideal for a LB to me.
We have a lot of attacking talent, I'd be quite happy to let them get on with the attacking and for the backs to remain solid - at the back.

The funniest thing about the Downing situation is that Rodgers thought it made sense to have Enrique as a left winger and Downing as a left back.

It negated Enrique's only positive ability of being able to shepherd the ball out of play and being hard to beat 1v1 and it also negated one of Downing's only positive attributes which was crossing.

We're paying him the same even if he's cleaning the toilets. What price his wages against the points dropped by a LB who can't do the basics?

well. if he shows ability to play the role like.... i dunno ray kennedy comes to mind. he moved back to midfield of course.

A guy like milner honestly doesn't have the pace to play wide but he can cross and run all day and stick a boot in. but to learn the position... thats a lot for 30+.

I dunno if he could learn the positioning and not throw the types of challenges he does in.

Wingers move to lb all the time at underage level, but lw to cm is what he's gone and done thus far.

mind you everton made kilbane a terrible left back having being a truely terrible left winger... so.. its possible.

    It's a tie - they're both ****.

Milner is not a Klopp left back - we need pace and energy to get up and down the flanks. Only clyne and Moreno are capable of doing that. We badly need to bring in reinforcements for both sides.

Same was said for Brad smith. And he was.

Either way, we need to buy for that position. <ok>

He must have been at least as good as Moreno for someone to pay £3m for him, maybe better.

Not really - because Smith was sold and Moreno wasn't. :)

You would need a buyer for that to happen (see Mario for details) :emoticon-0100-smile

I just can't see Milner at LB, he doesn't have the pace, got to be dynamic still to play there, he's fit but it's more of a slow burn with him than quick rocket like runs which he'd need to play there, in the middle he can just hum along and there's assistance and cover, out on the line it's more exposed and needs to be quick

I wouldn't worry too much, Klopp is not stupid enough to put a right footed player at LB. He could use him in emergency's at RB though.
Full back is the most important position on the pitch to get the right footed player, if you have a winger trying to run past you down the line all the time you need to be able to tackle with your best foot. Teams often now use wingers on the wrong side so they can cut in onto the FBs weaker foot.
