Apparently according to the local commentary the Spurs fans are singing "there's only 2 Kyle Walkers" love it!
Well we played some UEFA pedigree opponents 12 months ago in pre-season, and look how the following season turned out.
Was that the season where we went unbeaten during preseason and smashed a bunch of teams? I can't remember which season it was but it was a massive let down. Have basically ignored the results in preseason since then
Pretty sure it was the Ramos 2pts in October season. Won all of the games in preseason, then looked absolutely hopeless afterwards. I went to the Lane for the game against Wigan and it was one of the dullest 90mins of football I've ever seen.
Hahaha, just noticed your username! Brilliant. Been off the scene for a little bit, did you have a previous one?
Nicely done. Good experience for the Academy kids. No shame in the performances. I'm sure Pochettino will be running the squad into the ground with his "fitness" regime between now and PL day 1.
Good watch, we played some decent football and the build up play at times was really good. Defence looked solid despite so many youngsters out there. Just lacking sticking the ball in the net. Not impressed with Chadli again, he's not putting in the effort.
Scammers seem to think they can take the piss because our Development squad lost 1-0 to Atletico Madrid. They're not going to be happy when Theresa May starts deporting people for having an IQ lower than 35...
Used to be SandroTheBeast. Lots of lurking, minimal posting! Was very impressed with Walkes, CCV and Yedlin. Think Big Sam has improved Yedlin massively.
He was. Had a few misplaced passes, but otherwise he looked solid. Had a few rapid runs up the wing too in the first half. Even managed a few decent crosses.
Managed to watch this one at work Harsh result on us I'd say, hit the bar, post and Oblak produced some world class saves. Walkes was quality at CB alongside CCV, the guy is a real utility player having played CB, RB, DM, CM and AM throughout his youth career to date and I thought he had a really good game marshalling Torres, CCV also looked a lot better and showed why he's someone we have massive hopes for, interesting to hear the commentator say that he was a junior national shot-put competitor, no wonder he's such a ****ing unit! Wanyama had another good 45 minutes and providing nothing drastic happens, he's 100% starting alongside Dier against Everton. Yedlin really impressed at LB, that Sunderland stint has worked wonders, would love to see him and Walker in a race! Janssen was linking up play nicely and was so unlucky that his freekick was superbly saved by Oblak. Onomah had a somewhat quiet game though did produce a great volley in the first half, an inch or two lower and we'd be talking about a superb goal, crossbar is probably still rattling. Eriksen looked a little rusty but did make a decent pass or two. Lamela made himself typically busy and was unlucky not to score when played in by Janssen's flick. MOTM for me was Winks, looked incredibly composed in CM and dictated play for periods of the game with some great passing, has done himself no harm and I'm sure Poch will have appreciated his performance. All of the senior subs in the second half failed to impress, Son and Chadli were awful and I mean really awful, I've defended Chadli more than anyone but if he wants to get back in the XI or even stay with the club then he's going to have really turn it on against Inter because he's giving more and more reasons for being one of the players to make way for Nkoudou, Mason had a well worked shot saved but aside from that was anonymous while I don't think Carroll had a proper touch of the ball lol. Also, little update on anyone wondering about Big Kev, apparently he didn't play because of a black eye caused by Janssen and was also suffering from a little niggle in his hamstring. Results aren't important in pre-season, it's the growing performances/ fitness that's pivotal, while also giving a chance to see if anyone can put their name in the mix for the coming season and so far it's safe to say that Yedlin, Winks, CCV and Walkes have put forward a statement to Poch to make sure he notices them. While Chadli, Mason, Son and Carroll have reaffirmed that they're going to be squad players at best for the time being and are having their squad places pursued by the youngsters mentioned before-hand.
Mauricio: "Their GK was man of the match which says a lot. We finished the game with 9 players who have come through the academy - great." Mauricio: "It was a fantastic performance and a great experience for us. I am very happy with this young team."
It was only a Romanian, though... Unbeaten pre-season, winning seven, drawing one, scoring 33 (13 for Darren Bent) and conceding only five: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008–09_Tottenham_Hotspur_F.C._season#Pre-season_2 Finished up by beating Celtic 2-0, Dortmund 3-0 and the aforementioned 5-0 over Roma. 2 points from 8 games. Sacked.
Cheers for the excellent summary SOS I only watched the first half so very worrying to hear that Chadli and Son were again lacklustre. The former isn't really a big deal as we know exactly what to expect from him over a season. The latter is a massive concern as he has plenty yet to prove and the interview he gave a few weeks ago indicated that his attitude is spot on and he will fight for his place. Evidence from the Juve game and again today apparently points in the opposite direction. Unless he is saving himself for the Olympics and trying to avoid injury I cannot think of a valid excuse for not putting in a shift. Very worrying. As for the likely Wanyama-Dier pivot we'll see for the first month of the season, I think it was you who suggested ages ago that Dier may yet grow into a Dembele type player. The idea intrigued me at the time. Whilst the bulk of Dier's skill set lends itself to defending, he is very comfortable on the ball, confident to carry it forward, has a surprisingly deft touch and pass for such a big guy, and isn't afraid of having a pop at goal. He's already mastered 3 positions - it's high time he added a fourth! Box to box Dier? Could well happen.
As some of you may have noticed, I've always been a big Dembele fan, and I was delighted when we signed him. Yes, he's had his rough patches and has struggled with injuries. But MP seems to have worked wonders on him and he's at the top of his game - or was before that **** Costa came along. He's far more adept and skillful than some give him credit for. But one of his biggest assets was brought up by Jenas on MOTD. He said, "I've trained with him, you just cannot get the ball off him, he's so phenomenally strong" If Dier can develop into that sort of player that would be great....
That's the one...It was 08/09 pretty season under Ramos...like you I never paid attention to prevent season results since. The 5 nil match had Bentley looking world class
I remember walking out of the ground after that game and saying to someone "we're going to win the league this year"
