As well as our under 23's taking part in the EFL they are now taking part in a competition called the European Premier League Cup. This involves 12 British teams and 12 European. with the same format as the EFL. We have been drawn in a group with Chelsea, Dinamo Zagreb and Feyenoord. This can only be further good news for the development of our players.
Money put into infrastructure and youth is paying off , it's the good news within the stumbling aspect of the way our top flight situation is being run
15 million for Allen and Siggy for Davies pays for a lot of infrastructure in its own . Hopefully it will lead to other good players and more sales to keep the circle going .
I don't like the thought of the Swans as a selling Club. How do you get a settled squad or any stability like that? Guess that's what we've become though.
We have always been a selling club though Aussie as players have used us as a stepping stone to better things and i can understand that being one of the unfashionable clubs with 80% of the other clubs in the premiership.....We are all selling clubs to the elite who have the money and pulling power to attract clubs best players......The fact is when you analize it there are not that many players who have shone at their so called unfashionable clubs that actually go on and do well and eventually sold back to the unfashionable clubs but the problem then is they have been put on such high wages that it makes it difficult for normal clubs to be able to afford.... I hate these Big clubs with unlimited resources snapping up the best players from clubs like us and hardly use them...
Every club is a selling club, or have you forgotten about Utd selling Ronaldo or Spurs selling Bale? If the deal is right then every club will be willing to sell even Real Madrid, the Swans will be no different. If young players come through and succeed like Allen, then big clubs coming in will probably be inevitable. And we would welcome it as we did with him
A glib response Jager, but thanks for telling us that every club sells players. A selling club is known in football as one that doesn't have a settled squad over a period of time because its best assets are stripped away on a regular basis, leaving a gaping hole. You can't say that of all clubs in the Prem, but my point is that for a club in our position I suppose it's inevitable. Every time we sign a Bony we know full well he won't be here for long. A sad reality, maybe. But I recognise it's the same for clubs in the lower leagues. We've often bought 'stars' from lower clubs and they've hardly been heard from since.
It's no glib response! The fact is we have kept plenty of our players for quite a while, most transfers are down to the players wanting away, if they think the grass is greener on the other side then they can go imo! Just like Bony did, his career has stalled at Man City, like it did with Sinclair and many others. Clubs like this stockpile players to stop them playing for clubs, they prefer to pay them £100k a week then have them as bench warmers. And we do have a settled squad, as settled as any other premier league club, the backbone of the squad has been basically the same for the last few years, for some players over 5 years. That is as settled as you are ever going to get.
If you think we are a selling club now you should have been around when I first started watching the Swans. The Allchurch brothers, Mel Charles, Terry Medwin, Cliff Jones and these were local lads not players from outside the area need I go on..
