Let's be clear here. The heinous crime that Geraghty, admittedly a ****wit, committed against poor old Assem was that he turned up to a meeting wearing a cardigan and brandishing an iPad. In Assem's weird world that's the ultimate show of disrespect for some reason. He's a proper fruit loop remember, so when he says someone has really upset him doesn't necessarily mean they actually did anything particularly disagreeable. To a normal person anyway.
Wearing a cardy was not a good idea. That would remind AA of the Earl of Cardigan and his role in the Crimean War. Whilst Britain fought with the Ottamans in that particular war it was a sign of Turkish weakness that they had to request help from us and the French to fight the Russians. And of course afterwards, the Mohamedans would find their borders under increasing pressure from outside and within their Empire. No, he wouldn't have been pleased with that at all.
I worked for the council in an advisory capacity at the time of the incident you refer to. I was party to what happened at the meeting. I assume you know everything about what happened and was said?
So it's your fault it was decided being ignorant on an iPad and being dressed in a less than professional, business like manner was a good idea? Nice advice. When you also want something from someone else, isn't it better to even just pretend you respect them and to pay them your full attention? I can see why you're a sparky now. PR obvz wasn't your thing.
I wasnt advising on PR at the meeting. And how someone dresses or if they use an ipad in a meeting isnt 'PR'. I think you're thinking of a PA.
You are wrong Happy. The Council offered to develop the site in partnership with the Allams. The offer was turned down because it didn't include the freehold. Do you really think if Geraghty had offered the freehold it would have been turned down because he wasn't wearing a tie and had an I-pad. Although I always thought the I-pad was another meeting with some other Councillor playing on it. Assem Allam wanted the freehold so he could sell the club with the stadium.
There was some serious suspicion that he actually wanted to develop for housing the land on which the stadium stands...
There may have been, Councillors seem to have some vivid imaginations. He wanted to sell the club. The only way he could do that and make a profit was by getting the freehold for nothing. It wouldn't surprise me if the Liberals had given him a tacit nod and wink which ended when they lost control of the council that May. That would explain his reaction in calling the Council liars.
But surely Assem understood it was a different council that "lied" to him? This doesn't make any sense. And why such contempt for Hull City fans?
He hates anything with the words Hull and City in it. Remember his press conference at the KC (as was) when he referred to Hull City and said "I mean the club there, not the council"? As if anyone was confused The **** him.
I don't think he did. the council was the council was the council. If he was promised the freehold and then bought the club for £40 million you can understand why he was peeved. It took me ages to work out why he'd called the Council cheats and liars after one meeting with Geraghty. It only made sense if he thought he'd been promised the freehold before he saved the club. I don't think he has much contempt for us. I don't think he considers us much at all. Our views only matter when they coincide with his. You can look at most of his decisions which have adversely affected us as sound business decisions from a man that doesn't want to put any more money into Hull City.
