Gallas joined us after we came 4th.
He joined in August 2010 just before our CL run.

I'd go for Malli. He seems underpriced. I'm not sure we need both him and N'Koudou, though.

It was Dawson/Bassong/King the season we qualified mainly. Bassong was very good that year.

He scored on his debut in a 2 -1 win over Liverpool on the 1st game of the season...like you said he looked good but he seemed to go to pot after that.

As RCL has pointed out, Gallas joined after we'd qualified for the CL. How we managed to milk 34 starts out of him the following season I'll never know, but Ledley's injury took a dramatic turn for the worse and we needed a player who was only signed to provide cover for King/Dawson to actually step up and take control, which he absolutely did. Our failure to consolidate and finish in the top 4 again in 2010-11 had nothing to do with the fact that our main CB was going on 34 and everything to do with our failure to sign a top drawer striker with the CL earnings. Arsenal only conceded 3 less than us that year but scored a whopping 17 more, and therein was our problem - VDV was top scorer with a feeble 13 goals all year.

As for the statement I've highlighted, I'll begin by saying that I don't want to open this old can of worms again but many fans, myself included, would argue that what Harry achieved in 2009-10 with the squad he had at his disposal given the strength and quality of the big guns was just as, if not more impressive. He coaxed top-drawer seasons out of the likes of Bassong and Palacios - two players who have achieved nothing since - and got 24 goals out of Jermain 'not a winner' Defoe.

My only small disagreement is re Palacious. He could have on on to be a great player for several years if his brother hadn't been murdered. That horror understandably destroyed his career imho.

Regarding Yunus Malli, there's reports suggesting that he has a buyout clause of £8.6m if it's triggered before July 31st.
With the money we're seeing spent this summer which seems to have reached a new level of insanity yet again, that sort of money for Malli is an absolute steal. It's simply nothing in the current market.

Absolutely. Especially given the context that the gang specifically targeted his younger brother knowing that the PL star could afford to pay the ransom (which he did, but the c**** murdered him all the same); he probably blamed himself and his role as a famous footballer for the whole terrible ordeal.

Liking your post seems trite of me but you summed it up really well.
Have always had and will always have a soft spot for Palacios

There may be quota issues (homegrown / overseas) before such players can be signed.

I think we have 14 at the moment. If Yedlin stays 15. We are swapping N'Jie for N'Koudou(??) apparently, so that would leave 2/3 places available (17 oseas / 8 HG)

A Gallas-esque signing if available is an absolute no-brainer for me. We could pay them £50k a week and not even require them to play a game yet that experience of the game and the level of calmness and knowledge they could bring to the place is more than worth the financial outlay.

As for Bin Yedder and Malli, good players but I don't feel they're the additions we need, I feel as though we're already strong in their respective positions and our first XI choices are stronger than them, I'd rather we go for any available "VDV signings" in which the standard of player coming in is as good or even better than those in our first XI, that way it creates a lovely headache for Poch when it comes to selections.

    Jese Rodriguez?

Zidane has confirmed that he's on his way out. Or would that contravene the terms of our 'special agreement' with them?

Nope. We sign him. We draw them in the CL. We beat them at WHL. We top the group.

As I've said the other sixteen times Malli's been linked with us since January, he's a player we simply don't need. Yes he has good goalscoring stats, but he plays behind the striker - so if he plays, which one of Eriksen or Alli doesn't?

It seems Jan is already back in training and should be ready for the start of the season or soon after. Good news.

I think we all know Mauricio Pochettino's first 11. His second is currently:

    Vorm

    Trippier CCV/Ball Wimmer Davies

    Wanyama Mason

    Chadli Son Georges/Kevin

    Janssen

Out of those there are questions over Mason, Chadli and Son to my mind (even if Son's are solely that he's off the the Olympics - I think there may be others but we'll see). There is also the question of whether 2 forwards is enough? My answer, it isn't. We need another forward, preferably a pacier one than Harry or Vincent. We could do with a further attacking player for the three. A further pivot player wouldn't go amiss either. We could review Vorm as back-up keeper.

I know we have talented young players but they are at the stage Onomah was at last year. Capable of 20 minutes in a cameo in cup games or the odd league match. We mustn't start to rely on them yet. That's unrealistic.

We are a big club. We are in the CL. We are one of the top 10 richest clubs in Europe. No more skimping, please?

I'm probably being thick but Georges / Kevin - I assume one is N'Koudou but the other?
