he asked which three teams might be worse than us based on a specified fact. you were the one that assumed it had only just occurred to him and that there'd be nobody reading who might need reminding of this fact.

He said 'we only need 3 teams to be worse than us'. That was the point I replied to, not his question which followed his point made.

Using your logic someone can post 'That Katie Hopkins is a wonderful example of a human being. Who does she work for now?' and if someone challenges the first point you can say "I was asking a question".

    Which is clearly massively stupid.

so how would you have worded the question if you'd asked it?

your katie hopkins example is not relevant. the two parts of the example have no connection. the two parts of his question were related, since he asked which teams might be worse than us.

so basically you would never add a proviso or qualification to a question to clarify it for context or for people who might not know as much about the topic as you do.

Is that a question? Just there was no question mark.

I'd love to know who on this board doesn't realise that 3 teams get relegated from the Premier League next season. My guess would only be Ehab or Assem, if they're reading.

it's a fairly simple grammatical construction. i could indeed have added a question mark, but it's syntactically correct as a statement.

you might be surprised at what people on football boards don't know. i'm not sure now whether you're criticising the o.p. for his assumptions about what others might know or, as you originally claimed, for his recent discovery that we need three teams to finish below us.

That's why I asked if it was a question or not.

well, there wasn't a question mark at the end, so it was a statement. i realise not everyone adheres to this standard, but you'd be surprised at what people on football boards do and don't know.

anyway, i'm off for some food now.
