There are thirteen days to go to the kick off of the new Championship season and our home game against Leeds. Tramore has already opened the Prediction League, but I am at a loss as to our starting eleven. Let’s assume that there are no more transfers – what formation and who would you choose? I finally chose a 4-2-3-1 formation as it is tried and tested, plus is defensively minded, although others are possibilities: ----------------------- Smithies-------------------- --Onuoha -----Lynch-----Hall-----Bidwell--- ------------------Henry -----Cousins---------- -----Shopido---------Chery-----Washington- -------------------------Polter-------------------- I do not feel comfortable with Onuoha as right back, but if we play Perch (or Furlong), then as Captain, we need to partner Onuoha with Hall or Lynch. Also, as Borysiuk is injured, I can also envisage Henry as the preferred defensive midfield choice over Luongo. What are your thoughts?
If there are no more transfers we're fooked ! That starting eleven looks pretty close to what it might be at the moment, maybe a change in goal.Bound to find a place for either Luongo or Gladwin, the useless twats !
I also hope that there will be some new signings or loans. But the clock is ticking and there will not be much time for them to coalesce (I avoided the "g" word)
Give Luongo and Chery 10 games on the trot and they will deliver Do the same for Washington and he might Keep Henry in their for 10 and he will kill all the movement and momentum again Keep Polter in for all 10 and my season ticket is up for sale Put Jamie Mackie on the pitch and I'm going home now
So you would switch Henry for Luongo. It is certainly a good option and one I strongly considered - but we always seem to chose the safe option!
Chery delivered last season,Luongo didn't. He played enough games last season, and he was continually tuttocks ! I still wait with bated breathe for his first goal !
To be fair to Luongo, he looked great at the season and then had his chances taken away from him because of new recruits (who were ****e), not because he was out of form. In fact, his form was getting better and better. The truth is, he was player of the tournament at the previous Asia Cup and also top scorer, I believe. No one can deny that there's a great little player in there. But firstly, he needs to be played in the right way and be given a decent chance. His first touch is immaculate, too.
I don't understand the dislike for Polter. We hardly ever look like scoring when he's not on the pitch. Doughty, Luongo or Gladwin over Henry for me. Perch for Onuoha.
i dont dislike poulter but i feel hes another alan macdonald a brilliant center hallf but hes just not a striker
Without a couple more players (including a striker) of exciting quality, we look to be a mid table side again. Polter will have his uses but we can't rely on him to jettison us into the top six. His first touch is woeful.
I am still laughing at what you said about Mackie then you say this about Polter? ...... Do you mean 'he' instead of 'we'? As in, 'he hardly ever looks like scoring when he's on the pitch'.
His first touch makes me wonder how he ever got this far, but his hair is fantastic, so we should stick with him.
I think mid-table would be pushing it with this squad, with such a toothless frontline we'll be bottom six...
There will be a lot of angry fans if that is the case. No excuses now, this is JFH team and he has been here long enough to sort it out. He paid £3M for Washington who is yet to score. Not good enough as the division was poor again last season.
I THINK WHAT EVER TEAM WE PICK,IT MUST BE AN ATTACKING ONE BECAUSE YOU SAW IN THE SECOND HALF AGAINST NORTHAMPTON WE LOOKED SUPERBE AND COULD HAVE GOT THREE GOALS IN SEVEN MINS IF WE TRY SOME DEFENSIVE CRAP AGAINST LEEDS WE COULD LOSE THIS GAME FOUR NIL,THERE FANS HATE US FOR SELLING THEM GREEN HES HAVING AN APALING TIME BUT WE DONT HAVE ANY STRIKERS WHO CAN SCORE AGAINST THEM THIS GAME LOOKS ODDS ON TO BE A BOREING 0-0 DRAW
Especially as he was such a potent striker himself, should be able to spot a decent kindred spirit...
Mackie was worth a punt. Obviously it didn't work out but the logic at the time made sense to me. What's the plan if Polter doesn't play? No one else can hold the ball up. Six goals in the league from 18 starts (and 13 sub appearances) isn't brilliant but hardly disastrous. I think we look a better team with him in it. Would like to know the stats with and without him.
Out of interest, which teams should we be finishing above? If we get top six it would be over-achieving, like it or not.
Pretty much agree with the team in your OP Ski. Seems about the best we can put out now, possibly with Perch for Ned, Luongo for Washington or Shopido, and Ingram for Smithies. But none of these possible variations gets rid of the feeling that this is more of a relegation area than promotion team. Apart from Henry we seem to have got rid of the quality that kept us mid table last season, and not replaced it, yet.
