Personally, I'd like 2 strikers and Joe - the problem is we don't know whether or not we will lose anyone, Gylfi? Ayew? Gomis?
Well Gomis looks gone now with the club covering 40% of the wage. But I can't see us getting 2 strikers and Allen, especially ones that cost a fair amount of money, unless Bony comes to us with the money owing coming off his signing for us. What I can see happening is a striker we buy, one on loan with an option to buy, and maybe another player possibly defensive.
The idea that " 2 " strikers enters the question says it all to me . Everything depends on who stay( Siggy and Ayew ) to really answer the question . And if Ki has to go for Allen to come in then it's a straight no toward Allen . Here's a question , seeing a striker is our obvious weakest position , would you sign Bony for 25 million if that's what it took ?
I think that Joe is priced fairly given his performances in the Euros.....as he did stand out. He's worth more in my opinion and I can only see him improving (with us). I agree with Valley that we need him to add spark and energy to our midfield with Leon nearing the end of his playing time, and Ki quite frankly too pedestrian. Joe would provide the tempo we need to support the fast counter attacking style of play we saw at the end of last season. As for a striker I'd be thrilled with Bony returning and can actually see it happening as they likely still owe us. If we spend 30m on Joe and Bony I think we are good to go. I'd only want another striker if we lose Ayew, but I'm hopeful we can keep him (and Gylfi).
If we don't lose anyone else (excluding Gomis) I'd take 1 striker and Joe all day long as Ayew can cover as the back up striker.
Does that mean 15 million for Bony and 15 million for Allen ? ..... Liverpool are demanding 15 million today for Allen from Stoke . If we had to spend 25 million for Bony alone , would you spend it ?
So you'd see us with only one recognised striker? I think that is not really wise, think with two strikers we are covering bases, but we do have younger players who could step up as well
I'd be happy with Bony, Ayew, Gorre and the other kid (Mcbride?) as our options. Also Guido liked playing Gylfi up front on his own for some games in a midfield 6. Also as a worse case scenario, we could stick Routs or Emnes(I assume he's still with us) up front.
I would not spend 25m for Bony, and I don't think we would have to as they have not paid in full for him. I am definitely in support of 15m for Joe. I see him as a key player to get us back to what we are good at. I think a midfield of Cork, Joe, Siggy would be terrific.
Just think ---------Cork--------------Joe----------- ---Barrow--------Gylfi-------------Montero --------------------Bony---------------- with Ki,Leon,Fer,Routs,Dyer,Ayew as their subs. Now that is top quality strength in depth.
I still believe we have made no approach for joe and I think it is just something to appease the fans in the short term. I hope I am wrong.
We sold Allen for 15 million and most on here would buy him back after a squad stint at Liverpool for the same amount , We sold Bony for 25 million and most on here wouldn't buy him back after a bit better than a squad stint at Man City for the same amount We need a striker much more than a mid fielder , undisputed. Bony would almost certainly keep us up , you certainly can't say that about Allen ....well except for Valley but he's so far into getting Allen here he would say anything . I'm afraid the fans from Wales are hyped up on Euro success and are not being sensible in their wishes to bring Allen to the " Welsh " Premier League team . Just my opinion , we have many midfielders and hardly no strikers but most are putting much more into Allen coming here than anyone . Very unsound thinking ....Sorry .
I said we should buy Joe before the Euro's so get off your high horse. Joe Allen destroyed the Belgium midfield, if you can't recognise quality and are happy with the likes of Fer, then that's fair enough. What is unsound thinking Roof, is that Guido has left Palo and Eder leave without any replacements being lined up.
No comment valley , your thoughts , in perticular , are to ruined by the extreme emotion of being from Wales to take seriously ....sorry .
A lot of our issue IMO are due to us having a pretty poor midfield over the last couple of seasons. The quality of ball into the strikers, whoever they have been, has been poor. I do believe Joe will add some of the much needed quality back into our midfield, and our striker(s) will benefit. That said, I agree that we need a new striker and Bony would be great....but we will not have to pay 25m for him, probably closer to 15-16m....because Man City have not completed all their payments for him (I believe I've read that somewhere). So 30m or so for both Bony and Joe would be great and I'd be more than happy. I really do not want to see Ki continue to blow hot and cold....he seems to care less at times and I'd be ok shipping him out. Fer is still a relative unknown but does show promise. At the end of the day Joe is an ideal replacement for Leon and IMO is a must.....not competing with Stoke for him is a clear sign that we lack ambition and that bothers me. He fits our style of play and for me is a future captain once Ash goes.
Well it is true that we all have our opinions . My opinion of our midfield is Cork , Ki , Fer , Britton and Siggy is just fine . I'm also of the opinion that in the 2014 -2015 our midfield was good . Ki was our the 2nd highest scorer on the team for our best season ever with 8 goals that season . Last season our entire team was warm and cold , including the midfield and including Ki . Any criticism aimed at Ki last season could be aimed at most of the team but mostly Monk . Once Monk left , the team started playing better , including Ki then Ki got his conclusion . Ki's last game last season , our 2nd last game of the season , was argueably our best game of the season ..a 4-1 win against West Ham in which Ki scored and was MOTM when he was back up to speed . I would love to get Allen , but as I've said in the past , he is a want and not a need . To put Bony at the same value as Allen in our wishes to transfer both is just a total head scratcher to me .
I would pay that for Bony - we sold him for that much, so we wouldn't be paying anything more than the initial 12 that we got him for in the first place. 12M is a steal for him
