Don't forget Bruce's stunning selections and effort he put into getting a decent European run for the first time in the clubs history... Did well there didn't he! Those of you who were venting their spleens at him back then seem to have forgotten this also. Now he is/was the best thing since bread was sliced...
Perhaps he thought with the strength of of the squad it was a distraction and promotion to the PL was more important. Did he achieve this?
You forget the teams we beat! List the teams we faced on route to final and you will see how lucky we was!!!
Glad to hear some positives about how the team played. I mentioned a while ago, a silver lining might be seeing guys like Bowen, Tymon and Luer in the PL so I guess we wait and see.
We lost in extra time against a team costing many times what ours cost. Yep, still our best ever Cup run in 112 years- or is there a secret better one you know about? How did Villa do in 2015 against Arsenal with the mighty Tim Sherwood managing them ?
It was our best ever cup run. It doesn't make the result of the final any more palletable. Wigan managed to win the cup against Manchester City with a squad costing a fraction of theirs, we should have seen the game out. As it was, we blew it. But, typical of City fans, it was all about the occasion and not about the result.
They never left London did they. Compare that to our to our travels to all ends of the country. We were definitely lucky to get the blunts. I remember the big cheer going up as i walked to town after the Sunderland game. Don't forget were a good cup team that season. The other games were type of ties some of our other previous managers would have been happy to lose.
Well no, how is the journey of getting to the final better than the actual final? We lost, we were winning and we lost, manager responsible, undeniable. If you go on holiday, you don't say the plane journey was the best bit do you? Celebrating losing is something losers do. Nasty habit. Like when we were in Europe and Bruce ****ed our team selection and we lost to a mediocre side from Belgium (and almost stacked it against Trencin). It's the occasion that matters, not the build up to it.
To be fair we did beat Sunderland ressies in the quarters and a League One team in the semi after even struggling in that, it wasn't Chelseas first 11 then Man City, and we lost too you know in the final spunking a 2 goal lead and ****ed up in Europe which was followed by an abject relegation. Bruce did a lot right but this rose-tinted ****e needs redressing
I think Bruce is an honourable man and should have had the chance to cement the promotion last year but it's worth pointing out things like this too, he is no footballing mastermind
Yes it does need redressing. Like you saying Sunderland ressies. ****ing ****e that is and you trying to prove a point but its blatantly untrue. Seems we have more than our fair share of fans who want to **** on their own club at every opportunity. But then i suppose they're winners, probably brough up on being Man U fans or some such. Nothing less than the treble is good enough really.
I was there mate and my best mate is a Sunderland fan, he said that Poyet gifted us it and he should know. So we get Sheff Utd in the semis. You are telling me that there is no good fortune in that? Course there is. Europe was a ****ing embarrasment and so was the relegation. Lets hear both sides of the story please.
