The Irish Sun claims that Rafa Benitez is thinking about bringing in yet another player proven in the Championship. The Newcastle boss has already shown that strict age constraints are a thing of the past with 31 year old Jesuz Gamez arriving on a two year deal, so on age alone you couldn’t rule out Rafa thinking about 33 year old Daryl Murphy. Able to play on both the wing and through the middle, Murphy’s versatility would also be an asset. Brought over from Waterford United, Daryl Murphy had limited success in his four years on Wearside, although 10 of his 15 Sunderland goals came in the 2006/07 Championship season for them. After a disappointing few years at Celtic, the striker/winger has really came into his own at Ipswich Town, over the course of the last three seasons Daryl Murphy has scored 50 goals (27 in 2014/15) in 117 Championship starts (+8 as sub). Despite all six signings looking potential positives for Newcastle United, you still feel that more goals are needed in the team, though whether that will be 33 year old Daryl Murphy remains to be seen. Daryl Murphy has also benefitted on the international scene due to his Chhampionship form, the Ipswich player playing against both France and Italy for Ireland at this summer’s Euros. - See more at: http://www.themag.co.uk/2016/07/new...derland-striker-reports/#sthash.32yvF3Ch.dpuf
I think it is needs as needs must. It sounds similar to the first Keegan formula of buying the team to get promotion then sign quality later. Only worked once though.
What's up with Rafa's face on that pic - did his scouts just gave him the verdict of their latest in-depth striker search?
Benitez seems to want to bring the average age of that squad nearer to his own It's a long hard slog in that league and a good start can fizzle out after Christmas. Look at all the teams who've died in the final furlong ....... Derby, Hull, Boro, etc. A mix of ages is good but overloading the first team with players in their 30's will usually fail. The way Benitez sets team's up often relies on those players who are quick to break ...... Murphy? And if he's relying on Mitrovic to be a battering ram centre forward, he's dreaming. He's not brave enough and that division is packed with centre back cloggers patiently waiting their chance to kick him up a 'height.
Ritchie going down the line and sends in a cross for dwight gayle or daryl murphy to get on the end of hahahhha ****ing useless black and white ****s. ****ing ****e!
Just a hungover Sunday thought what about using the Daryl Murphy paparazzi song for whabi khazri.....
What's that? The only paparazzi song I know is Lady Gaga lol, is that the one? It could work haha "I'm your biggest fan, I'll follow you until you love me - Wahbi, Wahbi Khazri"
Great news !, then Buckley, Mavrias, Jones. Mind you they got £25m off gullible Liverpool (again) for Winjanalam or whatever they they call him), next Sissoco for £35m hehe. The thing is Murphy scored 27 goals for Ipswich a couple of seasons ago, so might still be a canny player.
