I think Big Sam will be the best England manager since Sir Bobby Robson #statement

I make that better than Graham Taylor, Terry Venables, Glen Hoddle, Kevin Keegan, Sven-Goran Eriksson, Fabio Capello, Steve McLaren and Woy Hodgson!

Really can't believe that we've appointed this tool...

What do the guys in charge of these decisions actually see in them? Awful football, no adventure, no creativity, no winning experience and zero charisma. We need to stop trying to prove that English managers are just as qualified and able as foreign counterparts and just accept that our managers are all ****e.

Ah well, at least Sam can finally show his doubters that he was capable of managing Real if he was given the chance.

I think this could be a very good choice, never managed a club where he could buy who he really wanted yet never failed at a club with the resources he had.
Now he has the pick of any English player he wants and can use a system to suit, you may all be surprised.

Leaves no stone unturned. Always applies tactics and won't stand for half hearted **** performances. I think it's a good appointment, best for a while as far as England are concerned.

Fabio Capello has the highest win % of any England manager.

You think fat Sam can break his record?

    Maybe not But I do.

I saw England go from having their best manager (in my lifetime) to having their worst.

I've been waiting for forever for Soy to go. (I can't support England with Woy in charge).

Now they've replaced him with bloody fat Sam.

Typical FA making a terrible appointment. That has set us back a good number of years.

It's set us back 60 years. It's now pre-1966 and we haven't even won one world cup yet.

Wouldn't be first choice but then can he be any worse than what's gone before? We've tried big name foreign coaches and they didn't work... Why not try English up and in your face manager who might actually show a bit of passion.

Dont like the guy particularly but at least he'll make sure the players put 100% in and show the fans that they want to play football.

to be better than eriksson would then be bench mark and this would required getting to a semi final of a major tournament.

    it goes like this

Graham Taylor 1990–1993 1992 European Championship – group stage, 1994 World Cup – failed to qualify
    Terry Venables 1994–1996 1996 European Championship – semi-final
Glenn Hoddle 1996–1999 1998 World Cup – second round
    Howard Wilkinson 2 games
Kevin Keegan 1999–2000 2000 European Championship – group stage
    Peter Taylor 1 game
    Sven-Göran Eriksson 2001–2006 2002 World Cup – quarter-final, 2004 European Championship – quarter-final, 2006 World Cup – quarter-final
Steve McClaren 2006–2007 2008 European Championship – failed to qualify
Fabio Capello 2008–2012 2010 World Cup – second round
    Stuart Pearce 1 game
    Roy Hodgson 2012–2016 2012 European Championship – quarter-final, 2014 World Cup – group stage, 2016 European Championship – Round of 16

Most of this lot have been abject failures, or left quick having being got rid of. You've said your favorite tournament was 1996. we got to SF then.

I rememebr the grief given to Robson by english media.

Eriksson like it or not was most consistent english manager and got the toeh same stage for 3 tournaments.

To be best I think fat sam has to get to a semi final.

no the list barring eriksson is pretty abject.

I think eriksson did work. We just think too highly of ourselves. top 8 in world is pretty ok for a side thats a pub team who can't take pens.

Fabio Capello and Sven both did a good job. The two foreigners are the only two who did any good.

Italia 90 was good too but I was only nine and only watched England.
