i actually feel even more gutted now it's sunk in i've knocked him on many occasions but that's part and parcel of football, he has been absolutely unbelievable for the club and i don't think we can ever get a more nicer, all rounded decent bloke and manager.. the fact he has quit the club shows just how bad of a position we are in and we were much much stronger with bruce on board.. will always clap you bruce.
I actually want to say something else I am relatively young as a city fan. but i've been there since the old division three days and i never thought i would ever be at an FA cup final i'd seen all the big teams and all the big occasions that are FA cup finals.. and i got to attend an FA cup final with my hometown team, the town that i have lived since i was 4 years old. That day is one of my most amazing, proudest days of my yet young life.. and the man at the helm was Steve bruce. We didn't win but when we took the lead 2-0. i had honestly never felt better in my life. unfortunately we didn't win but it was the day and the fact we are at an FA cup final is it possible for us to send an open email/letter to bruce? i think it'd be a great thing to do
As I fell asleep last night, my thoughts also drifted back to the FA Cup Final. That was just about the pinnacle of our recent existence, that 2-0 lead. Everything has basically gone down hill since then.
i don't mind we didn't win i mean OFCOURSE winning it would have been incredible beyond belief, but i just left the stadium feeling proud as a city fan BUT the club should not be how it is now.. we should have progressed as a club and that is what saddens me beyond belief The fact we have been in the premier league for the third seperate time in eight years SHOWS we are a club that has immense potential and is now in the upper echelons of english football. but we have this horrific situation. i HATE the allams.. i truly do. it's an incredible shame Steve Bruce is a hull city LEGEND.
Hi Ehab, you remember me, my name is Steve Bruce, can I remind you you signed these players for me, not as my first choice but as the cheaper option on my list. However they did a job, you signed NP and we got promoted, you signed AD and we got promoted, you signed RT we got promoted, so job done on my recommendation and money well spent. Cheap options for the bench.
Someone on here suggested a week ago that Steve Bruce's ability to attract players to Hull was 'over -rated.' I thought at the time it was a ridiculous comment. Do we seriously think we would have attracted some of the players we've had here in recent times with a less well known and respected manager? Anyway, we might be about to find out the truth!
I think it's not about Steve Bruce's inability to attract players: it's about Ehab's refusal to sign them.
that isnt impossible. no one knows what conversations happen behind closed doors. I believe that the Allams were wondering if they gave SB millions to spend, would we still get relegated again.
We were favourites to go down anyway so they might as well just have given him full reign. I'm not a fan of Bruce particularly in the Prem but with the momentum from last season and some transfers for this with the owners backing it might have been enough to just keep us up. They could have told Bruce at the end of last season their plans to **** everything up
the timing isnt spectacular, I agree. I am sure MP was privvy to SBs transfer list. hopefully he can get them transfers to still come here.
I doubt if the club will ever be able to attract another guy as good as SB, especially while we have the owners in situ...The word will go out 'leave well alone' unless you are (a) desperate to start a career in club management eg Giggs et al, (b) don't care that much eg Warnock (c) are skint. I can't think of any decent manager who falls into that category.
I hope to god that we dont attract anyone with SB calibre. We can do better than him. personally I want us to finish higher than 17th, there is nowt wrong with having ambition!
It's not going to happen Patty. Free's, out of contract's and loans only. (unless your theory about not trusting SB with transfer funds is correct, which I seriously doubt)
What he achieved despite the off field antics of the owners was incredible. He clearly wasn't happy with these but wasn't in a position to say much. It was left to him to appeal for calm and try to unite the club. Without this approach, things would have been much much worse. I can't think of anyone else who has the qualities to have achieved that. He was criticized for us not moving up to the next level after promotion despite spending money. Something I think was massively underplayed was the amount of injuries to key players that season, not just in number but to key players or when a player was hitting form (ie Jelavic, Diame) or to several players in one position, etc. He had accumulated a squad under normal circumstances which could have moved us onto the next level. The injuries negated the money spent. Again to his credit, he never used that as an excuse. He was criticized for his negativity, fair point but it is about winning. Yes he would take forwards off for an extra defender when 1 0 up, but although its not pretty and horrible to watch, look at the stats, he has a fantastic record for hanging on to leads. He only got us up through the play offs, but who cares? It's very clear that a very difficult season for him with the hangover of relegation against the backdrop of the owners, a divided club and at times unmotivated prima donnas in our team. He got stick for giving his son a contract. When he played, he never let us down. Good 4th choice centre back, which is how he played him. So long as his contract reflected that (which I have no idea), and it didn't create unrest (mmmm. Macca does spring to mind) then I have no problems with that. In Brucie I trusted and am gutted at us losing the best manager we've ever had (and are likely to have for a long time).
