    If we ship out Gardos, it ought to be with the intent to get a young, starting-quality CB who can spell Fonte and eventually take his place. Don't see much sense in replacing him with another backup.

    Looking at it strictly in terms of positions, on a player for player basis I don't think it is all that worrying if we don't sign a striker. However the fact we have lost Mane and Pelle does mean we have lost a lot of goals and I can't really see where they are going to come from. The obvious answer is Austin and Rodriguez but I can't see Austin being a starter myself.

    Austin will have to start sometimes if our only strikers are JRod, Charlie and Long....it's going to be a long season, full of games. I know he scored in his first game, but he needs a run if he is to settle in properly. Saints must be really hopeful about JRod....I hope they are right for the sake of Jay and us. I think we are going to seriously miss Pelle....he brought so much to the team. I can only assume we are going to change our style a lot.

    This is not aimed at who I'm replying to, but a general point.
    If you play as an attacking player, be it on the wing or up top then your contribution depends on your service.

    I've obviously not played close to the level of a Ronaldo or Pogba, but the principle is the same.
    You can run a lot of yards trying to make yourself available for a pass or create space and never get close to the football if your team mates can't or don't pass to you.

    This doesn't mean that you wander out of the game. You're just not near that spherical thing people are watching

    I mentioned him as an alternative to Dost a couple weeks back, if we want a big striker to provide another look. Ridiculously good in the air, not without technical skill. Haven't seen anything indicating that we're actually interested though...even the article that links to doesn't mention us.
