I'm in favour of Big Sam too. The guy does carry this negative tag about his football brand. However I was listening to an interesting point made on the radio in which the bloke was saying this tag was acquired thanks to Wenger. When Big Sam was at Bolton, he had Wenger's number tactically. So Wenger would bang on about how Sam's Bolton team is a bit rough and how they hoof the ball. This sounds about right for me. Its the kind of crying Wenger does often. Unfortunately for Sam the stigma stuck. Having said that...I've been hearing a lot of people in the game this week putting it to bed. So basically Wenger is a prick. That was my real point.
Hull are in turmoil, due to the takeover bullshit. Sunderland are more stable and have a better squad. Their fans would go absolutely mental, though.
Phil Brown's publicly talking about becoming England's AssMan, which I'm sure will please Southend...
I met Phil Brown during last season. The thing which struck me, was he avoids all eye contact when holding a conversation with people, which is not good for a football manager. Also, he wasn't especially complimentary about Spurs, yet later in the season he was pleading to us to loan him players.
He's always struck me as a budget Allardyce, but with extra shiftiness thrown in, too. I've never heard him say anything insightful, inspiring or particularly informative. Utterly limited and lower-league and he doesn't do too much in those divisions, either.
1. Do we believe that the collective talent pool available for selection as England seniors is akin to the squads of Inter Milan / get Real Madrid / Man Utd / Chelsky ... ?? 2. In news that will cheer hbic up no end, the ES had a recent article saying that one of the challenges Fat Sam will face is : how to incorporate Rooney in his teams.
I saw his Southend team play at Gillingham last season and they played some of the most physical 'anti' football it has ever been my displeasure to watch, I would actually suggest that Brown is more a poor mans Pulis than Allardyce. And yes I did witness Pulis at Gillingham when they had the without question the hardest and dirtiest team ever to where their Blue shirts and kicked and bullied their way to promotion in 1995/96 keeping a record 29 clean sheets in the process
I remember there were some people on Old606 saying he should take over from Ramos, simply because Hull had a good start to the season - missing the point that the last time we hired a flavour of the month manager, he was the reason we were bottom of the league at the time in the first place!
I'm not appalled by the appointment, but I am certainly appalled by Sam not wearing a tie at his first media interview. Poor show in my opinion.
