I couldn't stomach the thought of someone else raising my kids but it takes a real sadistic bastard to kill them first! Got to be seriously sick mentally.

(And yes, I put bastard rather than batard #serious)

There literally are no words to describe or comprehend why anyone would take out their own family (or anyone else's for that matter). Seriously, how the hell can you look at the child you've created and raised and watch the terror in their face as they realise the one person they trusted the most is about to kill them? It's not just the killing, it's the fact you bring their whole world crashing emotionally, mentally, at the end just before you do the deed.

There has to be a special place in hell for ppl like that.

The media report I heard said he killed the mother first so the child had to witness that before the father turned on them too

The only thing you can ask in that situation (other than the mum and kids had survived) is if he'd made a real hash of shooting himself, ended up in a wheelchair and contemplating what a complete **** he is for the rest of his life. I know that may sound harsh (to those who are disabled) but..

if you want to go down that route i suggest the guy i saw being brought into a hospital i was in some years ago. his suicide attempt , by shotgun , had basically blown half his face totally off but they had kept him alive and stuck him on a helicopter.
trust me he was a real mess

That's the common belief but the problem is they aren't in the general population, they're among people that have committed similar crimes. Plus on these wings it's usually common practice not to even discuss what you've done, but when they do they don't express concerns towards each other. They are by far the calmest wings in a prison.

They eat, exercise, work, socialise, sleep either in totally different wings or at totally different times. The only time they'll have contact with other prisoners is perhaps if they're in a yard with a wing looking over in the distance.

They actually have a much better time in prison due to not being over crowded and better financed rehabilitation schemes etc.

I worked as a Substance Misuse Worker in 4 prisons and they were all the same. I had to visit the 'numbers' or the 'nonce' wing many, many times and came across people very similar to this - which isn't easy to have to work with.

It's quite odd the old-school guards still call it the 'nonce' wing as nonce was never a bad term until playground kids got hold of it. It stands for Not Of Normal Courtyard Exercise.

Tbh I was thinking something along those lines. But I wouldn't wish it on someone who was just trying to commit suicide.

Not saying what you say isnt true as you obviously know what you're on about but I remember Ian Huntley being attacked a couple of times:

"On 14 September 2005, Huntley was scalded with boiling water at Wakefield Prison by fellow inmate and quadruple murderer Mark Hobson.[35] A prison service spokesman said that due to the nature of high-security prisoners, "it's impossible to prevent incidents of this nature occasionally happening", but Huntley alleged that the prison authorities had failed in their duty of care towards him, and launched a claim for £15,000 compensation"

"On 21 March 2010, Huntley was taken to hospital, with media reports stating that his throat had been slashed by another inmate; his injuries were not said to be life-threatening.[41] The prisoner who wounded Huntley was later named as fellow life sentence prisoner and convicted armed robber Damien Fowkes, who went on to kill another convicted child killer, Colin Hatch. Huntley applied for a £20,000 compensation payout for his injuries.[42] On 11 June 2011, the Daily Mirror reported that Fowkes may not be tried over the attack on Huntley amid concerns about his mental health.[43] However, in October 2011, Fowkes pleaded guilty at Hull Crown Court to the attempted murder of Huntley, as well as the manslaughter of Colin Hatch, a repeat child sex offender then imprisoned for murdering a seven-year-old boy, at Full Sutton prison in February 2011.[44] Fowkes received a second life sentence for the two attacks.[45]"

Is it just me, or should Fowkes have had his sentence reduced not extended!

There are clearly still some risks, but compared to being in general population they're very minimal.

You could be in for fraud and get stabbed up for not giving your canteen over to someone. But in the NONCE wing you have an extra safety barrier in place. I'm sure some guards would quite like to turn a blind eye for 10 minutes though, and I'm pretty sure some do too!!
