I never considered that before <ok> I was wrapped up in the nostalgia of having Kirk, Spock and co back in a pretty bloody good reboot, that I forgot the sci-fi and the message and moral compass of the original series that Roddenberry wanted to focus on, has been missed. I used to love Star Trek for that, and in fact that's what made the original characters the strong characters they were. Even the films, while often poorly executed, had a scientific, moral and/or social purpose that we could all relate to in the real world.

This episode is a ****ing good example of exactly that. Way ahead of its time...

Episode: A Taste of Armageddon - you won't get how great this scene is unless you see the whole episode but it highlights why war needs to be bloody for it to be considered an absolute last resort.

BTW The Next Generation is massively underrated, it continued the theme and Roddenberry's vision brilliantly.

I have seen the trailers for "star trek" and i have to up the quotes on there as this is now SO FAR from what star trek is it might as well change the title to galaxy quest and become the spoof it clearly is.

they might as well be the gay fest spoof of 300 now. they've mixed in a star wars wannabe element in.

    ....

treble is right. the ONLY reason star trek survived cancellation to become a movie in the first place was the large following it built up due to the messages the show gave.

like the guys who were black on one side and white on the other fighting each other.

Putting women in roles even if they were in short skirts and all swooning. the thought that uhura could be a black woman in an actual job and treated equally was radical.

the russian on the bridge, the asian, the alien.. every show was a moral commentary on some issue or other.

    .......................

In short jj Abraham is a ruiner of stories and he's ruined star trek and i hope he is gone totally for star wars as he did a **** job on that too.

first reboot... decent. not great, a bit cheeky about the timeline but could be just about worked with i nthe context of the star wars universe

Second movie. total ****. taking parts of old movies and mashing them together and flipping the scenes about. Putting stupid characterizations together... cumberbatch was a terrible character wasting his talent. this one pissed all over star trek universe

This new one? just call it galaxy quest. i'd rather watch tim allen spoof than it.

I think you're in the minority. Most Trek fans hate the reboot.

Regarding Galaxy Quest MITO, I believe there have several attempts to reboot it as a TV series. Either Netflix, Amazon, or Hulu were looking at producing it.

Talking about Hulu, their show "the path" was really good. Not sure what channel if any it is on in UK.

"Jessie Pinkman" actor from breaking bad plays the lead role about a cult member who realides his cult is a sham but can't leave because he doesn't want to lose his family.

a galazy quest tv show... wow says it all.

There was word of a new star trek tv show but the way that they've just let rip and savaged the whole universe of star trek now (and to be fair it started with the final picard movie) .. well...

CBS is producing the new series it will be out early 2017 I think. Same lead writer as wrote Voyager. I thought Voyager had good writing... The acting was terrible but it was well written with interesting storylines.

Unfortunately I won't get to see it for a few years. It's being released globally on Netflix but here in the US its only being released on CBS's own subscription website. I'm not paying to watch CBS. Neither is anyone else from what I'm hearing.

The rest of the world will therefore get to see it before the US.

I thought in general voyager was very mixed. I agree that the acting was terrible but aso that the characters were weak.

Ok like... DS9 started off very weak but they grew quickly into a total classic after a couple years.

how the hell are they putting star trek on netflix.. thats not right.

I just feel you need to get it right in premise. star trek grew in DS9 into a galactic wide strategic war. it had this bajoran centric bit that actually wasn't the main story in the end. You have to think big in star trek now.

If someone did the 2000AD comics as aTV series that would be spectacular if done right.

I think they had good plot lines it was just poorly executed. Of all the treks they regularly had the best ideas- the just couldn't pull them off due to poor acting and production.

I never liked DS9. Tried to watch it but always seemed too soap-opera for me.

In the other treks they explored a social narrative based on other cultures they met. Because DS9 was stationary it focused more on The relationships between people. That appealed to me less. That and the longer story arcs. You couldn't just watch one episode you had to have seen the episodes beforehand to know what was going on.

Yes but they added the defiant ship and then galactic war to it snd it took off.

First year id agree with you.

Sissko ended up imo best captain since original series.

Just finished the expanse season 1. Its a great show. Starts maybe a bit slow and the storyline is pretty complicated but the space setting and the worlds they have built are top notch and beautiful.

Definitely recommend it to any sci fi geeks.

I agree about the netflix thing, more annoying that Netflix's never seem to come up on other broadcasters, like Amazon Prime shows (Vikings, Blacks Sails, Mr Robot, Extant all been on Sky channels). Leads to more piracy.

I actually think there should be two new series, both set in the proper universe (rather than the Abbrams Uni). 1) Carry on with the classic style, ship and its crew gallivanting around the cosmos, a new crew for the Enterprise set after Nemesis. 2) Something darker and more of a mini-series style. Explore the darker side of Federation, sort of True Detective style (although less confusing <laugh>)

theres loads of scope in a created universe to do this.

if paramount were any good they'd not have killed it. look at disney milking everything out of star wars...

movie for adults but the kids are getting loads of shows. star trek could have done similar.... but never did.
