I saw this photo on Twitter the other day. I was away at university at this time so can't really remember much about 'Rocky' at City. What do people remember about him? image.jpeg

Only saw him play once for us. League cup tie verses Newcastle. His second game I think. One of our better performances in a dreadful session, but still lost 2-0.

    Good man.

    RIP

Memory might be hazy but I remember him being outstanding in a big win against Swansea I think,. Was it something like 5-2? Anyway he was head and shoulders above everyone that day.

    RIP.

Saw all his games for us even though I can't remember who the opposition was,
With his ability he stood out by a country mile but struggled a little getting to grips with the low standard of football we played at the time.
Quite simply he was too good for us.

Was that the home game at BP? I'm sure it was an even more ridiculous score line like 7-4 or something like that.

Almost every attack resulted in a goal. Rocastle was a great player and he spoke well.

    Another taken far too soon.

    RIP

Not football related but met him at the
Petrol station at top of first lane hessle,
Had a quick chat, said he was off back to London,
He was obviously rushing to get home,
It was quite late in the day also,
    But didn't rush our conversation.
I wished him luck and shook his hand,
Came across as a really nice bloke,
The thing I remember the most was
How soft his hands were, anyway
A really terrible thing to happen to
A really nice fellow... RIP... David...

Yeah that was the one. I wondered if it was 7 goals but then I thought was that the Crewe 7-1 game? So I convinced myself it was fewer goals!

Even barrel chested Rioch got on the score sheet with a barnstorming run and finish.

I saw him play for us away at Cambridge, I was based down south at the time. I seem to remember him holding the ball up and threading beautiful balls into bags of space behind the defense. Except we had no one with the vision to see them coming and there was hardly ever anyone on the end of them. We won I think, which was unusual that season, but can't remember the score.

OT just for a mo but one of my favourite away games was the 3-4 win at Cambridge. There was defo a hat-trick but cant remember if it was Deano or Linton. This was then followed by a 3-4 win at Cardiff in the next away game.

All with Terry Dolan as manager

Cracking game – it was a Windass hattrick.

CUFC had just come down from the old Div 2 (or whatever it was back then) – had some decent players like Steve Claridge and Liam Daish (?).

I recall there being a minutes silence for one of their fans who had recently passed. In the City end I definitely heard some sniggering/chanting as people were coming in etc but Cambridge seemed so impressed by our observance of it, their fans seemed to hold us in esteem for a few years after.

Anyway, Linton scored in last few minutes to win 4-3.

Went to Cardiff the week later – another cracker.

I remember Rocastle's MOM debut against Scarbs and won 3-0.

Scarbs had Mick Wadsworth as their manager and would usually do us so 3-0 was well weapon. I actually would have liked MW as our manager - such was the ambition at the time.

That was a weird but great game.

Crewe pretty much played us off the park in the first half yet we went in 2-0 up.

Second half hattrick from Brown in something like 10 mins.
