Never before, and never again for at least a few years, will a football club stand to make so much profit on a player that they took on a free transfer. Juve can (and will) hold out for as much as possible but they will sell and are probably holding out for the magic 100 million. I doubt it will affect the overall transfer fee as we will probably reduce the add-ons accordingly - it's just Juve wanting to boast about a 'world record fee' etc etc
I don't think that matters at this point. That was four years ago and that little kid has definitely lived up to what he expected of himself.
The background is we never let him go. He was a young kid who had looked shocking in the few games he had been given a chance in who then demanded guaranteed game time before he would sign a new contract. No way was he getting that guarantee so he run his contract down and moved. Sad but true story, if he had shown more he may have been offered more.
In the few games he played for the first team he did show flashes of the talent to come, but I think it was Phelan who said that he was just a little behind in terms of his mental maturity compared to the rest of the youngsters at that time. After promotion to the first team squad he obviously thought that the club owed him a mega-deal plus guaranteed game time, neither of which was going to happen. Ad the season wore on he obviously became disillusioned and overtures were made to Juve who were only too happy to guarantee him game time in their first squad - so he signed for them.
Whatever can be said about Pogba, when you're sat on the bench and see Rafael being played in CM, and even Powell, you naturally feel disheartened and wonder how much your ability is valued. I personally had little sympathy for him. You are at one of top clubs in the world, under one of the best managers, you have to be pretty out of touch with the world to think you can demand anything. HOWEVER, consider your own job and what you would do if you felt your capabilities werent being recognised or valued and where you feel you can do better. I know for sure I have moved employers for that very reason and totally glad I did.
L'Equipe are reporting that the Pogba deal is done - for between €101m-€120m http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actu...ocial&utm_source=Twitter#link_time=1469038457 Is the most credible source reporting it...
Yep. It now looks as if Pogba will come. As I predicted for £100m. When Fergie left and Woodward was appointed, I said that United will have to pay nearly double most of the stars they covet. Forget about bargains. We are talking massive premiums. They see United coming and they rub their hands knowing that if United are keen they will pay over the odds. That's the reality of the situation. United now has world class players in 3 key positions: GK, Midfield and striker. And the supporting cast is not too bad either. Bring it on!!
I don't think this is accurate that we need to be paying "premium" because we are United. You can create a perception of a sucker in this market and we did that with fluency. Once the media got involved in spiting out numbers, the Italians were there listening and rubbing their hands.
Of course we don't need to pay the higher price nor do we need to do anything. The reality is that the sellers perceive United to be desperate to buy the players and therefore do not budge from their asking price. Juventus know that United are willing to pay £100m. So no hard negotiation there. As I said right at the outset, an extra 20m or so does not make that much of a difference to the execs/owners. Owning the first £100m player will be exploited as a marketing tool and the club will easily recoup that money. It is interesting that Real are supposed to be the biggest/richest club in the world yet apparently declared that they couldn't compete with United s purchasing power.( there are some rumours that they are planning a late late raid on the deal . Well we'll have to wait and see)
The moment you pay £100mil for Pogba is the moment you'll be ****ed over every time in the market from now on. It happened to a certain extent with us the moment we paid £35mil for Carroll.
But at least Carroll was a proven success, a world-class player at the top of his game who has gone on to be snapped up by Barca....................................oh wait..
This is a tweet from the Agent: "There is no deal done regarding Paul Pogba, lots of bla bla bla." This guy is a complete fkin scum!!! To want 20% of the fee too is just insane and shows exactly what is wrong with today's game. It's beyond belief that someone would make that much on a deal like this. Pogba should pay his agent and not the fking clubs. AMAZING!!!! I won't be shocked if he is waiting for Real to come in. If City puts 50m offer for Kroos as reported by paper, then expect a twist if this is not wrapped up ASAP.
Definite feeling he will go to RM. The wheels are turning so slowly on this one that there is bound to be a sting in the tail and we end up looking like idiots - again.
That Agent is a repulsive. He strikes me as an unprofessional little git! If Pogba goes to RM because of his greed, I would not blame Woodward for standing his ground. We can't allow these vermins in the game. Wasn't this guy the one Sir Alex mentioned that he couldn't work with that led to this fiasco of Pogba leaving in the first place? Wisdom right there!
The guy is just cashing in the desperation of the richest clubs in the world chasing the few top players. He is only getting the money because the clubs allow him and others to do this. Human nature and all that. If you could get 20% as an agent, wouldn't you accept it? Especially if your client is not the one who is paying. As for Madrid stealing in at the last minute with a higher bid, I say good luck to them. They would have been shafted more deeply than we would have been. The reason why United are paying this huge amount is because United has no CL to attract these top players wanting "show off their talent in the best club competition in the world". I doubt whether without United pushing the prices up, Real as CL champions would have needed to pay that much. It is pure speculation anyway. Barcelona apparently were also interested but at this sort of level of bidding they said they couldn't be involved.
That's exactly the point I had been making all along, Christian. The price has gone up by 40% since I started this thread. I thought at the time the fee was stupid, but here we are talking about £100m deal. As for if I were an agent, would I not want £20m from the deal? Of course we would all take money, but that's besides the point here. The way this guy has conducted himself in public shows that he has always been a twat which was why Pogba left in the first place. They are vultures int he game. But sadly, the governing body of the sport itself is just as corrupt so I guess this is all normal.
