Contract negotiations can really become protracted if the salary is negotiated heavily or the player wants a release clause (then you have to decide how the release clause is activated and at what price). Then you have to negotiate how a contract can be terminated: if a player fails to show up for training for one day or a week does that constitute gross misconduct and allow termination? You will also negotiate the players bonuses if he scores, the team wins or the team wins competitions. There are lots of elements to a contract. Mahrez is in no rush to sign because he is already under a contract. The lawyers and agents will be doing their thing.
He'd be a better fit for man city under pep than anyone else in this league I reckon (other than Leicester obviously).
That actually is a possibility - Mahrez is a Barca fan and since they seemingly don't want him, joining a team managed by Pep might be the next best thing...
... he already has a contract ... it has 3 years to run ... don't blame him for taking some time to consider whether he wants to extend it beyond that tbf ... hopefully he will ... but he hasn't said he won't sign an extension and he certainly hasn't said he wants to leave .. depite the press creaming themselves at the prospect of him moving to one of the so called elite clubs ..
They have no room for him as they would have to drop one of Messi, Neymar and Suarez - would be a bench player at best.
Good to hear Mahrez is saying the right things to his manager, but lets not take that as concrete that he certainly won't move. Think he said the market was finished early last year too before we got Kante in. I would be surprised if no business was done at all, in or out before the window shuts.
Football is plain **** nowadays. Money, agents and media are just ****ing up the sport and making it all about off the field circuses and not what happens on it. This will no doubt drag on and on as per Vardy and Kante with the press loving the opportunity to rip into us after last season. Not that Mahrez will but he should make a statement to put an end to this either way
