its quite good that we havent bought anyone yet cos if SB left, the new incoming manager might not like the new employees.

    The Guardians verdict on Bruce...

    Steve Bruce
Current job Hull City manager Age 55

Career high Leading Hull City to two promotions to the Premier League and the 2014 FA Cup final.

Career low Being sacked by Sunderland, the biggest club he has managed, in November 2011.

    Odds 6-1

Reasons for Experience. Been there, seen it, done it, bought the T-shirt – the much-decorated former Manchester United captain has presided over almost 800 games as a manager and won four promotions. Bruce preaches a brand of competitive yet attractive football and produced an exciting Sunderland side before everything swiftly unravelled following Darren Bent’s sale to Aston Villa. Resolutely down to earth, blessed with a wonderful sense of typical Geordie humour and rarely fails to appreciate the nuances of life’s shades of grey.

Reasons against The biggest break of his career – at Sunderland – ended in tears. Although far from the “dinosaur” of popular depiction he remains sufficiently old school to cause a few palpitations at St George’s Park. Players often respond brilliantly to him for a couple of seasons or so before things start coming undone and underachievement sets in – see Tom Huddlestone at Hull. May disappoint sections of England’s dressing room and is much more a manager than a tracksuit coach. Motivation represents his strongest suit but will it wash with the Raheem Sterlings and Daniel Sturridges of this world?

To be fair you could almost copy that for Allardyce, switch Newcastle for Sunderland and there ya have it.

From an England point of view none of the candidates seem great. It'd be interesting to see what Bruce or Allardyce would do. Surely they're not going to employ Allardyce on the understanding it'll be Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan up front, with 8 other hoofers knocking it up to him? Equally if it's Bruce will it be Townsend and Lallana as a front two every week?

From a City point of view it'd be bad for us if he left but I don't even find myself caring any more. We can't be much more ****ed than we already are. All that really matters is we're stuck with the Allams. Fair play to Bruce if he gets it. I'd wish him well.

The fact that the FA didn't appoint Allardyce after they spoke to him, suggests that he might not be the front runner that the media imagines him to be. Which I guess is why the odds on Bruce are shortening.

It would be a fabulous achievement for Steve Bruce to get the job. And a total disaster for Hull City.

Bruce is now actively campaigning for it. It's embarrassing.

Bruce is ****ing useless - if that's the best England can come up with, we're ****ed - at least if he goes we might get someone in who knows what they're doing

from BBC: < "It's got to be the prime job that any Englishman could ever want to have," Bruce told Sky Sports.

"I'm highly flattered to be even considered. I put my case across and let's hope it was successful." >

Blimey. That last comment is a stinger for the Allams. Is there a way back for Bruce now, even if doesn't get the England gig?

It'll be Phelan or Pennock taking over if Bruce goes. Why anyone wants him to leave, now of all times, is beyond me.

I just had a terrible thought... If Bruce leaves for whatever reason, who would actually work for Allams?

The first name I came to was Steve Evans...:bandit:
