I'd say you are right - he's probably best behind a target man, although he played a lot of last season for us on the left side of midfield. I'm personally hoping he stays and plays behind Mitrovic.

Personally I think whoever gets him is getting an absolute gem. He may have had a tough time last season, but it wasn't half bad for a grounding season in PL football. He will cope better now and has undoubted talent. He has a real eye for goal which is priceless. I honestly think he would excel under Rafa and I'll be gutted to see him go.

Twitter is saying that Liverpool are very close to reaching an agreement to buy Wijni. He has been given permision to fly to Liverpool. No mention of fee, but it appears to be cash only, so no players in exchange. Minimal fee newcastle will accept is around the £25M mark, possible add-ons etc.

My thinking is an agreement would only be made when Rafa has a suitable replacement. Replacement wont be of the same quality but hopefully has alot of potential!

Im excited to see who Rafa brings in as his replacement. I like the look of Lookman, currently at Charlton. in the england u19 squad at the moment. of the demari Gray/Dele Alli mould, young, doing well outside the prem and has a lot of potential, a bit of a gamble but could really pay off.

I hope Wijni is replaced though and its not thought that Aarons/perez/Gouf could fill in

I would take him to Liverpool myself but he probably wouldnt turn up unless someone dressed him, fed him and carried him to my car. A bit like his football last season, everyone else does the hard work. Git.!! I was shocked by his "couldnt care less" attitude last season.

Majority of your team was ****e last season to be fair mate, it's harsh to single out Wijnaldum really.

£25m is way too much tbh, but we can't negotiate for **** so expect £25m + something ridiculous like £10m in add ons.

Fair point, cant really argue with that other than most of the rest of them were **** because they are ****, he was supposed to be better than ****, and he wasnt.!

(what a sentence that was, ha ha, I deserve a drink after that grammar exercise)

To be honest I think you have to cut Gini some slack. I accept we paid a lot of money and he went missing a lot. He struggled with the physical side of things and generally did not live up to the billing. So often the case in their first year though. Look at Depay. I honestly think both will be serious weapons this season.

Fair enough then mate, we'll just have to wait and see.

Why do I feel like we're being mugged off again ala Carrol? <cry>

I found the problem with Gini is he never expected to graft, he thought 'he would come in, money would be spent and we would be up high, when this didnt happen he didnt graft. Technically he is a good player, a bit light-weight but we did get very excited because he scored alot of goals early on. But when reviewing it over the 38+Cup games he scored what 11 goals, all at home and 50%odd of those goals were scored in two games, Norwich (4) and tottenham (2) so 6 of the 11 in 2 games. the other 36 odd games he did have his moments, but he is not worth a penny over 18-19M and he is only worth that because prices are inflated, his in a 4 year contract and his international pedegree!

I hope he goes to Liverpool. he will join a list of other recent newcastle rejects like Carroll and Enrique. The more money we squeeze out of them the better. If liverpool are spending in excess of £25m for players like Wijni then they have no hope for top four and are making the same mistakes that they've made for a good few years under hodgson, Dalglish and Brendan Rodgers.

Like I've said before, we won't get anyone better to replace him so we should tell him he's staying. For a first season in the EPL in a struggling team he did very well IMHO and he'll only go from strength to strength.

Easier said than done these days. Players hold all the cards. You would hope that if he stayed he would play. On the other side of the coin he could sulk, disrupt the squad and not really play and be more expense and aggravation than he's worth. If you were risking millions on getting us up and on Wiji's salary would you play it safe or take a chance.

I think he'll go but would prefer him to stay and play but I don't know the man and don't know how he will actually play.

An alternative would be to loan him out but would there be any takers that Wiji would be happy with.

We hold as many if not more cards than him. He's got, what, 4 years on his contract? I'm confident that he's professional enough to get on with the job if he stays. Totally different to Sissoko. It annoys me how fans talk about them in the same breath as if they are cut from the same cloth.
