The anti-nuke folks won't like these figures either. How long do they think it would be before Fiji, Tahiti, and possibly even New Zealand would become Chinese colonies? South Africa is one of the most mineral-rich countries on earth. How long before that becomes either a Russian or American colony? There are millions of people around the world - a whole commonwealth of people lining up now to help us with trade deals (we've had a dozen offers in three weeks) - whose freedom and independence relies on us being at that table. What price do the anti-nuke people put on betraying all of them?

I'm a unilateralist, as I really can't see the point of them TBH. I'd rather we spent the money on conventional forces and looking after ex-forces personnel properly. And how do nukes combat terrorism or cyber attacks? As for protecting Pacific nations from the Chinese (a) we're simply never going to nuke them and (b) our missiles don't actually go that far. Better to set an example that rest of the world would do well to follow. As Dave Allen once said: "There's enough nukes in the world to destroy it hundreds of times over. Doesn't anyone know that once is enough...?"

North Atlantic, according to the Beeb's report on Trident renewal yesterday. I claim no expertise on the matter...

We aren't supposed to know where our nukes are, pretty concerning that the BEEB seem to be able to pin point our submarines location <laugh>

I think "North Atlantic" is suitably vague. Narrows it down to a few million square miles :)

In 1982, we sent a nuclear sub 9,000 miles to the Falklands under water (I think) in about ten days. I think we can be pretty sure the newest models will not be restricted to the North Atlantic.

We cannot use them with out the agreement of the USA, plus if it ever does go off we will not start it but any country with nuclear weapons will be the first one targeted. As I see it we are paying to be the USA's advance base and putting a target on our heads at the same time. So its a no from me.

Keep. And with 4 subs! I'm sure the labour party were last year proposing a cheaper version with 1 sub? But apparently the experts say we need all 4...
