From your link...John Denver on his own, had a single chart entry going to #1 with "Annie's Song" in 1974. He also collaborated with Plácido Domingo on another single, 1981's "Perhaps Love" which reached #46 and was his only other chart entry. Denver also had five Top 20 albums on the UK Album Chart during the 1970s. His lack of chart success in the United Kingdom stands in contrast to his popularity in his native United States, where he charted 15 Top 40 entries, including four number one singles.

Which proves my point. To be a one hit wonder you can only have one song to have ever made the top 75, John Denver has two!

I think we all know Cocker meant artists who only ever managed one No.1 hit in the UK charts. I certainly knew what he meant, and I do think we should all just come together in congratulating him on a magnificent win. :)

    New quiz tomorrow. <badger>

I think you shall find that the first thing I did was congratulate him it was only after that that I made my very valid point

No 75 on the charts is not a hit, how many records were in the hit parade? 40. All radio stations play the top 40.

40 is classed as a hit, any lower and it's not a hit.

...However, John Denver is a strange one, he was famous around the world and I seem to recall him being around for a long time on TV and radio, he may have been technically a one hit wonder but I don't think it's accurate in his case. Bit of a cheat imho.

Going by that link, being in the top 75 is a hit, which is my point.

    .
With Polish and Hungarian ancestry, I was born in the USA during the early 1950s
Being Jewish and overweight, I suffered from low self-esteem; I first began acting in college plays and took a degree in theatre arts
I won a Golden Globe during the late 80s; I've played the title role in a comic book adaption; and I regularly take on roles requiring extensive make-up or full facial prosthetics
You can often hear my voice work on animated series and video games, including the Halo franchise and the Justice League

One of five siblings, I was born in Kent during the mid 1950s
Upon graduation, I worked alongside William Hague at a management consultancy firm; I made my name in business by reversing the fortunes of a leading supermarket
A majority of over 7000 saw me win my first seat in Parliament, in Kent; I joined William Hague’s Shadow Cabinet a year later, with a remit focused on transport and environment
I was once voted Yorkshire Businessman of the Year, and in my spare time I enjoy fishing, tennis and opera

One of eleven siblings, I was born in the USA during the WW1 years
A devout Catholic, I initially planned to enter the teaching profession, but my love of acting saw me relocate to New York
I starred on Broadway and with touring shows; I appeared in one film with a heavyweight boxing champion; and I even enjoyed a singing career in Paris nightclubs
I was blacklisted from Hollywood due to a supposed link with the Communist Party, and I was barred from travelling to Europe as a result

    Please note:

Friday's quiz will be the last for at least three weeks, perhaps a month. I'm off on my travels.

I may log in every so often, but it's highly doubtful.

Don't do a Trev/Kirung, please leave this place alone whilst you're away. Not606 should only be for wasting time at work and recovering from rough weekends calling people ****s.

    Where you heading to?

Are you going to see the many castles you haven't seen in Britain yet?
