His lack of chart success in the United Kingdom stands in contrast to his popularity in his native United States, where he charted 15 Top 40 entries, including four number one singles.

Which proves my point. To be a one hit wonder you can only have one song to have ever made the top 75, John Denver has two!

I think we all know Cocker meant artists who only ever managed one No.1 hit in the UK charts. I certainly knew what he meant, and I do think we should all just come together in congratulating him on a magnificent win.

No 75 on the charts is not a hit, how many records were in the hit parade? 40. All radio stations play the top 40.

40 is classed as a hit, any lower and it's not a hit.

...However, John Denver is a strange one, he was famous around the world and I seem to recall him being around for a long time on TV and radio, he may have been technically a one hit wonder but I don't think it's accurate in his case. Bit of a cheat imho.

 

Going by that link, being in the top 75 is a hit, which is my point.
