Yep - lost 0-1 to Neath exactly 5 years ago, 16 July 2011 - it was the Swans first match since the Play-Off win over Reading at Wembley.

    The team that day was:

Swansea: Thorsten Stuckmann, Steven Caulker, Ashley Williams, Scott Tancock, Radames, Mark Gower, Andrea Orlandi, Ryan Harley, Danny Graham, Nathan Dyer.

Subs: Thomas Gregg, Daniel Alfei, Joe Walsh, Jazz Richards, Kemi Agustien, Luke Moore, Steven Dobbie, Leon Britton, Oliver Davies, Thomas Butler.

Huw/The board, haven't done a good job for a while now. Poor signings, Dyer affair, sacking Monk and putting Curtis in charge to then bring Guido in, buying crap players on the cheap etc, piss poor application in terms of the buyout timetable - should have been completed earlier to allow the so called 'investment' to be used in this window, the way they kept the trust in the dark about this takeover, the way the ML sacking was handled.
They've been poor for a while now, and now we are only a few weeks away from the new season and we have no strikers.

I haven't seen anything linking Gylfi with a move away.

Either way, Gomis, Palo and Eder have been sold or are about to leave. Ayew, imo will leave if a decent bid comes in for him.

We could really end up in the ****e here. It's idiotic to have not got a striker in by now.

My worry is, we need 2 strikers, and that's only if Ayew stays. We have no fire power up front at all.

There are always poor signings, why don't you mention the good signings they have made? Why concentrate solely on the negatives at the club? There are plenty of positives far more of them than the negatives imo. As for the sacking of Monk, he lost the changing room, what were they supposed to do wait until the situation couldn't be reversed? Curt taking charge was a good thing until we had someone in place to do the job properly.

The Trust had nothing to do with the other directors selling shares of the club, they weren't consulted because it had nothing to do with them, if they were selling shares then of course they'd be involved. As for the ML sacking, I seem to remember people were baying for his blood on here, or am I mistaken?

The buyout though could probably been timed better, but the club will handle it, what else can we do?

    1. We haven't signed a very good player for 18 months since we got Cork in Jan 2015.
    2. We all know that Monk losing the dressing room involved the board, or at least a board member.
    3. Yes, Curtis taking charge was a great thing, to be publicly made manager until the end of the season after the boards jolly boys outing to South America, only for a few days later, to announce a new manager - it was amateurish at best from the board.
    4. Not informing the Trust that the club was being sold was very underhanded.
    5. I'm not disagreeing with the decision to sack ML, I've always said it was the correct move, but the way it was handled, was very, very poor.

There has been plenty of positives in our signings just not in the last 2 transfer windows, I know there is still time, but surely we need at least one striker in to actually have some game time with the squad before the start of the season. I would not be happy going into our first game with a striker who has just met the squad. That cant be good for either the player or the team. There are 19 days between now and our last friendly, we have to sign someone soon so they can start to gel and play in these or at least some of these friendlies.

Tend to agree with Valley. The ratio of good to bad signings has swung only one way in recent seasons.

That's the way it goes sometimes, and having the benefit hindsight is great for you, the fact is though that the club brings in people they think will add to the team, they don't go out and deliberately bring in bad players, they are not out there costing the club money on a waste of time.

For example with Gomis he was a player who scored over 50 goals in 4 years, he was out of contract he appeared to be just the thing we were looking for. How could the club reasonably know that he wouldn't work for us? I contend that people on here were excited that a goal scorer was going to partner Bony. It's a shame we never played two up front and Bony left soon after.

I'm not saying their job is an easy one, Jager. That's why most in charge at our Club are paid millionaire salaries. It also doesn't mean to say that us ordinary folk aren't entitled to comment on the results, and the signings simply haven't been working out in recent times. Arguing the opposite defies reality. Shrugging your shoulders and saying 'well, the Club did its best' is admirable, and I wouldn't criticise you for that, but other fans are also entitled to point out the obvious.

Well the fans have the benefit of hindsight as I said, they sit there and complain about players like Gomis not working in our club. The club scouts these players, use sophisticated software to see all kinds of stats about these players, they do everything possible to make sure these players fit the bill. Then make a calculated gamble on them coming to us.

And yes fans point out the obvious after the deed is done, meaning they dissect things afterwards and say things like 'well, the club did its best' in a sarcastic manner on forums. But these fans are not there making huge decisions at the start, they are there at the end. So if you looked at the Stats of Gomis would you have brought him in? Don't use hindsight now, use the stats from 2010-2014 only.

Try adding the none performing Strikers as well, Gomis was a big failure, try £8 Million failure, useless bag of beans that he is.... <ok>

The only thought that keeps me cool with no striker signing at the minute, is that the board do not want to make another Go-miss mistake and are exhausting all avenues thoroughly.

Yes Gomis was a failure as things go, and we have wasted money on him, but you can only say that now that you know the aftermath of bringing him to the club. Now go back 2 years and be in the club's position on deciding who to go for, I would guess you'd go for him based on available facts
