My view with building a squad for PL is you must build 2 strong 11's. To finish in the top 4 your strongest 11 must be capable of a title challenging, whilst your second 11 must be good enough for a strong EL finish minimum.

Karius - Mignolet: As long as Karius works out this is ideal.

Clyne - Flanagan: Ideal in my opinion

CB
Lovren - Matip - Sakho - Gomez: Due mainly to injury prone players and lack of experience, needs work. But no player is an obvious weak link.

LB
Moreno - Smith: Moreno is capable of being a decent enough squad player but must improve. Smith is the first big weak link in this method.

CM
Can - Henderson - Allen - Lucas - Stewart -Grugic: To unbalanced. Enough of some things but very little of us. Far from bad, reliable work horses which every team needs. But work horses alone is not enough. Little creativity, no general, little muscle. 2 in 2 out.

WM
Mane - Milner: Posible big talent and a super reliable work horse. Ideal in the short term.

AM
Coutinho - Lallana - Firmino : Simply needs another. This is a very appealing trio and if we get 2 injuries here at once we will cope by using guys like Milner and Grujic, but Coric will be ideal now if possible.

ST
Sturridge - Ings - Origi - Pace, movement, skill, energy, work rate, goals. Ideal for a season with out Europe. Let see how they do for injuries and reevaluate in a year.

I'd like 4 or 5 more players in total, but I'd accept 2 more if we can only get CB and 1 CM in. Those are priorities. The rest can wait if need be.

I left out very young squad members and players I 100% expect to leave.

Sorry but ill agree to disagree. Your first point.. ok i dont think its possible but taking it as the basis and saying ok strong top 4... i cannot agree in any area with your assessments.

Look at rb... look at cb.. you keep saying ideal but the players just are not what you said was required... imo of course.


Imo we've a half decent team but with 3 clear 1st 11 gaps. Fill those gaps and we might have a decent bench to go start to compete in a year without europe.

I was writing out our team as it currently exists. Not my opinion. I gave my opinion afterwards.

Ok but didnt you say ideal to clyne and flanagan? For me thats kot a top 4 and a strong back up. Thats a maybe top 6 clyne and a total bag of averageness as back up

The cbs are likewise. I see lots of errors in there.

I just think we completely lack any top top players and as such theres nobody to pick the rest up. Weve not attracted one and continue to not attract any.

Firmino is not a top top player. Coutinho has not developed as id like and sturridge is always injured. Lallana is not even europa class imo and can has a lot to learn and improve on. Henderson is better as far away from goal as possible chasing about.

As much as id like mane to be the next john barnes for us hes got to deliver consistently and only time will tell

In my life time we had rush to aldo to rush to fowler to owen to torres to suarez and now weve lacked that top striker and we can only hope sturridge and origi to step up.

We had dalglish then Beardsley then barnes then mcmanaman then gerrard but since gerrard aged weve not had a player creatively to make the goals... coutinho does it may every 4/5 games. We need more.

Look at cb. When i was young hanson and then hysen came in briefly then we'd muck at the back til hyplia came. Now im afraid they are just like the 1990s again. Really average players and lots of them. When will we see another really strong cb partnership?

The team needs culling yes but it really needs that injection of quality to change it round. Just even 2 players. I dont care if they are developed over two years but we need a coupke stars to lead the charge.

Really surprised by Kante. Thought he'd give it one more year, as Vardy stayed and their in CL and he's still young enough to get a move to another big team next year If he wanted it.

He would have to play well for another year to do that, he never caught a big teams eye before, he may never do it again.
Why take a chance when the offer was there.

So he has no self belief that hes good enough to play for a big team... that'll work out well for him this year then.
