Make your own. It'll be loads better than the ****e they laughingly call cider thesedays. http://www.cider-making.co.uk/cider-recipes.html/homebrew-apple-cider-recipe.html
Some nice ones in Furley & Co in town (according to Mrs T) they seemed mainly Welsh in big cardboard boxes Beer's certainly bloody good in there
You can indeed buy some superb ciders. I was meaning the fruity fizzy sterilized piss that seems to be popular with the young folk of today.
Quite agree. Wish they sold Sheppys on draught up here. Strong bow, Magnets etc are to cider what that abomination of Stella brewed here is to the one you get in a bar in Belgium. Trouble is get me in a pub in Devon or Somerset I have to try each one. Or at least attempt as I can't down them like I used to.A favourite was in the Cotswolds. Called No Brainer made by Cotswold Brewery. Only available in bottles, as are many of the best ciders.
Fun Fact: Strongbow isn't allowed to be classed as cider as its only 8% apple. I know it is, but it's not held in that regard in proper cider counties. Think for it to be proper cider it has to be at least 75 % apple.
Anything full of chemicals and CO2 ism'tcider. The law says cider must contain 35% apple juice, fresh or from concentrate. (Just looked it up) Camra says to be called a cider it should contain at least 90% fresh apple juice. I'll go with Camra, France, where there are some good ciders says cider must be made solely from apples. Not been there but become one who I know who has been says Basque ciders are fantastic.
Another thing, made produced ciders, of the type we are referring to, Sttongbow and the like, contain up to 5 spoonfuls of added sugar. Not so great if you are diabetic.
Once went with a mate to watch City at Exeter by train. On way back had an hours wait in Newton Abbot. Found the "Ye olde Cider Bar." He was very happy but as I don't like it and there was no beer had to drink wine.
You need to get used to drinking it out of an earthenware tea cup without a handle though. Those crazy, crazy Normans. Zut Alors!
Been through there a few times and passed by it. Unfortunately always driving so unable to give it a try.
