Christian's insistence that Juve doesn't want to sell holds as much water as a fish net. The fact of the matter is that we have not offered that silly money as the media is reporting. So Juve would rather hold out as long as possible to get the maximum from the player. Many clubs offer players new contracts to be able to better control the bargaining for higher transfer fee only to sell them the next season.

AND NO! John Stones ain't worth £40m either! He has been shyte every time we played Everton. City should definitely buy him!

Christian, I don't see how you could possibly keep up the argument for £100m if you think in footballing sense, he ain't worth £100m. Surely even if inflated, we should pay no more than £60m for Pogba. Crazy that we started this thread stalking about £70m. Since then, Pogba had an average Euro, yet we are now talking about £100m. Shows how ridiculous the whole thing is.

I actually really like the player. I think he is one of the more complete players out there and for his age too. I would love to see him back. But I hate it when good players get caught up in useless "world record fee" in all editorial prints. Same thing happened with Bale. I loved Bale as a player but I thought Madrid were stupid to have paid £85m for him. 3 years on, they still haven't seen the very best of Gareth Bale like his last year at Tottenham. And when you hear the media talk about Gareth Bale, they never quite talk about his talents as much as how much as the record. I don't want any of our investments turning into "world record" stamp but I do want Pogba in the United colour.

Going to have to disagree there about bale. Whilst he's not been breaking records, it's hard when Ronaldo is the main man. Even being there, he's still got an awesome amount of assists and goals even though he's been injured quite a bit. He's also been involved in some key goals, like the Champions league final winner and the one against City just of the top of my head and the champions league final assist just past.

He's definitely been a big contributing factor to the 2 CLs wins and Fergie would have gladly paid 85m for 2 CL returns seeing thats all he managed in his career as United manager

This is always the deciding factor for me. Can a player take a team beyond the level they are currently at, and bring that sort of success. Dwight Yorke wasn't "worth" £10.75m in 1998, but his contributions to the team ended up being much more. Similarly Bale wasn't "worth" £5m more than Ronaldo, but his return in terms of how the team as a whole has achieved success since he arrived and the role he has played has been easily worth that to the club.

Ultimately I'd be less concerned with trying to compare Pogba to different players, all of whom were older when they reached their pomp, and more concerned with how he could improve the team and club. Roy Keane is actually an instructive example - he arguably wasn't "worth" a British record fee in 1993, particularly when we already had Ince and Robson as an established CM partnership and before he'd really shown his leadership capabilities. But you'd be hard pressed to argue he didn't take us forward to a huge degree, and he definitely justify that fee twenty times over in the next twelve years.

That surely must be the single most important consideration. The argument about whether he is worth £60m or £100m is academic for a club like United. We could do like the RS and spend multiple £20m-30m (up to a total of £300m) on crap players. But what's the point and where would that take us? If we identify one player who could make the difference then we should get him. End of. That we should turn him down even if he is available and willing to come just because he costs £100m is crazy.

And I don't think Woodward or Mourinho would hesitate if the deal is on.

Bailly in for Jones and that will likely be the starting lineup.

Also Schneiderlin probably in for Carrick, maybe F-M ahead of Darmian. And Herrera to come in for Schneiderlin or Rooney if we need a bit more guile to break a defence down in some games.

Last season Man Utd conceded 35 goals while Liverpool conceded 50.

I'd say they were 0.7x better at least.

So according to The Sun, the deal should be concluded this weekend for 105m quid.

The key thing is I repeat whether we need him. If we do and he is going to improve the team I.e he is better than anyone we have at present then it is a no brainer.

****ing Woody has come a long way since he was appointed. I remember him really irritating me by his trying to get a bargain by quibbling over a few millions and ending up losing the player. United never get a bargain. He's learnt his lesson.

Paying way over the odds is ******ed. The price is clearly overly inflated, no doubt about it. Pogba is not the only player on the planet that can improve a team and this is nothing but hype gone crazy.

Mind you, this is not my disapproval of Pogba as a player - and I've said this many times. But jumping over hell with pumped price would only add pressure to settle him into the team and pressure across the team. If we end signing Pogba for £100m, we would be expected to then win every competition next season. I don't think that's an ideal pressure for a team that has underperformed for so long.
